2015 Toyota Community Concerts Aim to Inspire Recovering Tohoku Region with Classical Music

2014 Toyota Community Concert in Fukuoka, Japan
Toyota City, Japan, Apr 10, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - Continuing its longstanding tradition of promoting classical music in communities throughout Japan, Toyota has announced the details of this year's concerts to be held jointly with local dealerships.

The 2015 Toyota Community Concerts program (running through to April 2016) will comprise 45 performances in 25 prefectures and will continue to feature three types of concerts: challenge concerts, visiting concerts, and invitation concerts. This year's highlights include concerts held in the recovering areas of Fukushima and Miyagi.

Challenge concerts

Reflecting the needs of their communities, these concerts give amateur orchestras the opportunity to push their limits and perform challenging pieces. Participants will be able to enjoy the experience of performing in large urban concert halls with professional conductors and soloists.

One of these innovative concerts will take place during the Fukushima Recovery Festival, with local amateur orchestra members (mainly from the Koriyama Citizen Orchestra) gathering to perform Mahler's second "Resurrection" symphony. Their goal is to convey through music the hope for Fukushima's recovery. The conductor will be Kenichiro Kobayashi, who is from Fukushima, with approximately 200 residents making up the chorus.

In addition, the Sakata Philharmonic Orchestra (Yamagata Prefecture) will take on the challenge of performing Puccini's opera "Tosca" on March 20, 2016.

Visiting concerts

Contrary to the locally-based challenge concerts, the visiting concerts will see musicians travelling to places where residents have few opportunities to hear live music. These musicians will perform at such unorthodox venues as gymnasiums, hospitals, and other public facilities.

Concerts will be held at Tsubaki Elementary School on the island of Izu Oshima, which was heavily damaged during a typhoon two years ago, as well as disaster-struck areas of Fukushima Prefecture and Miyagi Prefecture. In addition, concerts will also be held at special needs schools, aged care centers, and other venues.

Invitation concerts

For these concerts, exposure is key: seats will be set aside for young people, the elderly, and for people with physical disabilities.

Toyota Community Concerts are held in collaboration with the Federation of Japan Amateur Orchestras Corporation, and are supported by Toyota and local Toyota dealers. The aim is to showcase performances by amateur orchestras in various regions of Japan to contribute to local culture through music. The concerts were first held in 1981, and this is the 35th instance of this compassionate program.

President Akio Toyoda said: "The Toyota Community Concert program has been important to us for more than 30 years. I hope that, working together with Toyota dealers across Japan, we can bring joy to even more local residents through music, as we consider how we can give back to local communities."

As of the end of March 2015, a total of 1,505 concerts have been held in 185 municipalities in 45 prefectures across Japan, reaching an audience of about 1.22 million people.

Ticket reservation information (in Japanese) is available at http://www.toyota.co.jp/tcc/.

Nagoya, Japan, Apr 10, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - Today Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation jointly released their latest status report concerning progress in developing the MRJ (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), their next-generation regional jet. Simultaneously they also reported on the current state of preparations for expanding production bases towards inauguration of the new aircraft's manufacture. Details are outlined below. Going forward, progress will be periodically disclosed.

1. Start of business operations under a new structure

Effective April 1 MHI and Mitsubishi Aircraft launched a new management structure to facilitate transition of the MRJ project from the development stage to the manufacturing phase, and under the new framework initiatives are moving forward towards more unified operations. Prior to inauguration of the new structure, in January Mitsubishi Aircraft relocated its complete Head Office functions to the Nagoya Airport Terminal Building (Toyoyama-cho, Aichi Prefecture) next to where the MRJ's final assembly, ground testing and flight test are performed. Relocation to this site has resulted in a highly efficient business operating structure.

2. Progress status of aircraft development

Presently static strength testing and manufacture of the second and subsequent flight test aircraft are all proceeding smoothly. In order to fully incorporate the verification results of the various ground tests and related feedback into the first flight test aircraft, the timing of the first flight has been reviewed and is now scheduled for September or October of this year. Going forward, MHI and Mitsubishi Aircraft will implement intensive flight test after the first flight and accelerate manufacture of the aircraft towards first delivery, as scheduled, during the second quarter of 2017. Along with all other procedures, we will seamlessly proceed with the preparation of a high-level customer support system.

3. Progress of base expansion scheme in preparation for volume manufacturing

The comprehensive production base expansion scheme that was announced by MHI in February 2014 has been finalized as detailed below, aiming at full utilization of MHI's production facilities for manufacture of the MRJ.

1) The new plant being constructed on a site previously owned by Aichi Prefecture adjacent to Nagoya Airport will perform final assembly, outfitting and painting to bring the new airplane to completion.

2) MHI's Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works will integrally produce parts for wings, which will be brought to the Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works' Tobishima Plant (Ama District, Aichi Prefecture) for fabrication on dedicated assembly lines being newly constructed.

3) In tandem with these initiatives, a production collaboration association to produce aircraft parts will be established, and a cluster is in the process of being formed at the Matsusaka Plant in Mie Prefecture, to undertake integrated production of parts for commercial aircraft in a collaborative manner.

4) Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aero Engines, Ltd. in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture, a group company of MHI, will perform final assembly of the MRJ's engines.

5) To control and manage the physical distribution of the vast number of items involved, a real-time network linking all production facilities in Japan and worldwide suppliers will be established.

The MRJ is a family of 70- to 90-seat next-generation regional jets under development by Mitsubishi Aircraft. The MRJ will offer substantially higher fuel efficiency combined with reductions in noise and emissions, and also provide spacious cabin comfort on a level unprecedented in regional jets to date. Orders have already been received for 407 units of the MRJ (223 firm), and the MRJ's rollout ceremony was held last October.

Going forward, MHI and Mitsubishi Aircraft will continue devoting their collective resources towards the successful completion of the MRJ project as a significant contribution to the development of the aviation industry.

JAKARTA, Apr 10, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - The Jakarta International Handicraft Trade Fair (INACRAFT 2015) is the key event that helps to strengthen Indonesia's creative industry in relation to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), Director General of National Export Development of the Trade Ministry Nus Nuzulia Ishak stated.

"INACRAFT 2015 provides a valuable opportunity and important strength to the Indonesian handicraft industry's creative economic players in the face of the AEC," Ishak noted in a press statement here on Wednesday. Ishak affirmed that the trade ministry continues to improve the country's competitiveness through the development of products and marketing. Through INACRAFT 2015, the creative industry and handicraft businesses are able to market their products.

Handicraft industry is one of the creative industries that significantly contributes to the nation's economic growth. Ishak explained that the ASEAN market is quite attractive, and the country's creative industry could serve as an important economic means to face the AEC. "Indonesia's handicraft product exports to the ASEAN increased by 14.11 percent over the last five years, with a value of US$27.8 billion recorded until 2014," Ishak stated.

He remarked that the key to success of the country's creative industry was innovation and the skill to identify the market while continuing to improve quality. Indonesia's handicraft exports in 2014 stood at US$694.34 million, with a positive upward trend of 2.63 percent, he pointed out.

The 17th Jakarta INACRAFT 2015 was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Wednesday at the Balai Sidang Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). Held from April 8-12, 2015, INACRAFT is Indonesia's biggest and most comprehensive exhibition of gifts and housewares.

INACRAFT 2015 is organized by the Association of Exporter and Producer of Handicraft of Indonesia (Asephi) in collaboration with Mediatama Binakreasi. The annual event has become an icon of Indonesian handicraft products' exhibition and is in keeping with the government's annual agenda to consistently develop the quantity and quality of products.

Asephi Chairman Thamrin Bustami had earlier affirmed that a total of 1.6 thousand companies from all the provinces across the country participated in the INACRAFT 2015, which is expected to be visited by around one thousand foreign buyers and 200 thousand domestic buyers. He noted that craft industries in Indonesia have started to show potential, which is apparent by the increasing number of local craftsmen with new innovations and creativity producing new products.

Promising economic demands and market opportunities have made these industries more interesting and reliable to explore with a glimmer of national economic growth and improvement. With its sub-theme "Improving Quality of Creative Handicraft to Penetrate the Global Market," this exhibition is expected to showcase the existence and compatibility of Indonesian creative craft industries to the international craft community during the time of stiff competition from similar products manufactured by other countries in the world.

Last year, the INACRAFT 2014 adopted Central Java's cultural inheritance as its main icon aimed to develop creative economy products in order to improve the export quality of Indonesian craft products to become one of the alternative sources for supporting the national economy in this global free-trade era.

Indonesian Officials: Kazakhstan can become Trade Hub for Central Asia

$

JAKARTA, Apr 10, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Indonesia believes that Kazakhstan can serve as a potential gateway to expand the export of its commodities to non-traditional markets in Central Asia, a top official of the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said.

Speaking at a seminar on "Indonesian Economic Diplomacy in Central Asia" here on Wednesday, Hery Saripudin of the Research and Development Policy Affairs division of the ministry stated that Indonesia needs to increase its trade volume with several Central Asian countries, especially Kazakhstan, due to its strong economy.

"Indonesia can increase trade with Central Asian nations by using Kazakhstan as a hub, given its strategic position that can connect us with some big markets such as China and Russia," Saripudin affirmed. Moreover, some large countries, including the United States, Russia and China, have begun to expand their investment in Kazakhstan, while bilateral trade between Indonesia and Kazakhstan had witnessed a downward trend in the 2010 to 2014 period, recording a drop of some 3.42 percent.

The World Bank classified Kazakhstan as one of the upper middle-income countries with a GDP of US$231.9 billion in 2013, he pointed out. The 10th largest oil producer in the world, Kazakhstan has oil reserves of 40 billion barrels, which is around 1.8 percent of the world's total oil reserves.

Director of South and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Listyowati revealed that Indonesia was considering establishing car tire and instant noodles factories in Kazakhstan. "A memorandum of understanding has been signed by private sector companies of both countries. However, it will take time to realize the construction of the two factories," she said.

Listyowati added that so far, Indonesia has only exported car tires to Kazakhstan instead of building a factory there due to certain obstacles. These included high costs of logistics and transportation. However, Indonesia needs to follow the ways of Singapore and Malaysia. The two countries have introduced direct flights and cargo plane services to some nations in Central Asia, she pointed out. --Antara.

Doha, Qatar, Apr 10, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand, underscored the importance of education in fighting crime in the recent Doha Youth Forum on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

"The best tool to combat crime is education," said Princess Bajrakitiyabha. "It is also the best means to unlock the human potential."

Princess Bajrakitiyabha cited the efforts of the Qatar Government, through the Qatar Foundation, Qatar's Ministry of Interior and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, to promote a culture of lawfulness through education as part of the overall strategy for sustainable development.

She encouraged the delegates to use the Forum to initiate intercultural dialogue and friendships, debate, propose practical recommendations and utilize the experience to become role models for other young people.

"You have to be more than just innovative. You have to be citizens of action and reflection."

A UN Goodwill Ambassador, Princess Bajrakitiyabha is the only child of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajralongkorn. She has a PhD in law from Cornell University.

Her involvement in a nationwide public awareness drive on violence against women in Thailand collected over three million signatures for the UN Women's global "Say NO to Violence Against Women" campaign.

Apart from promoting the rights of crime victims, Princess Bajrakitiyabha also assures that female convicts are treated fairly while incarcerated and are adequately prepared for rehabilitation.

She runs the "Kamlangjai" or "Inspire" project for Thai women in jail. The project assures adequate assistance while they are in correctional facilities and prepares them to mingle with society once they are released. Her project ELFI (Enhancing Lives of Female Inmates) proposes new rules on the treatment of women prisoners and non-custodial measures for women offenders.

Similarly, the State of Qatar continues to enhance its focus on women empowerment through the constitution and legislations. In the 59th UN session on the status of women held in New York recently, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Qatar's permanent representative to the U.N. said Qatar was keen to exercise equality between citizens and has worked to integrate women issues, particularly those related to providing proper work and enhancing social protection for women in all strategies and national plans.

Qatar has also adopted a preventive policy to protect human rights in general and women's rights in particular in the form of Qatar National Vision 2030, with one of the pillars being the promotion and empowerment of women.

Thailand and Qatar have an enduring relationship going back to the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1980. The two countries have a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of health; an agreement on recruitment of Thai workforce in Qatar; cooperation in the cultural and trade field and investment in agricultural products and commodities. Twelve percent of Thailand's population are Muslims, and is the sixth largest exporter of Halal products in the world.

Photo Credit: Orchard Road Business Association
SINGAPORE, Apr 12, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - In conjunction with the launch of Samsung Galaxy S6 4G+ and Galaxy S6 edge 4G+, the six-week Samsung Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard 2015 (FSO) fashion extravaganza is back from Friday 10 April - Sunday 24 May 2015.

As the Orchard Road anchor event that celebrates all things vogue, FSO 2015 aims to present six spectacular weeks of fiesta as it heralds the Spring / Summer fashion season with runway shows, distinctive exhibitions and exclusive MasterCard(R) shopping promotions. For the sixth year running, Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard is presented by Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA), and supported by Singapore Tourism Board and MasterCard.

As the traffic-stopping curtain raiser for FSO 2015, the highly anticipated Orchard Fashion Runway saw Orchard Road closed to traffic on Saturday 11 April 2015 to create the longest runway for the precinct's grandest fashion show. The usual vehicular bustle along Orchard Road switched to a magnificent outdoor catwalk display of the latest Spring / Summer looks from local and international brands. With a dazzling visual feast, it saw a record number of 176 models strut down Orchard Road, including a unique Samsung fashion segment, and for the first time, childrenswear and a special collection to commemorate SG50.

"With 2015 marking Singapore's Jubilee year, Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) rounded up some of our nation's most celebrated designers and curated a visionary SG Next50 collection for Samsung Fashion Steps Out 2015. The SG Next50 collection was presented at Singapore's longest catwalk, the iconic Orchard Fashion Runway, together with a showcase of Spring / Summer 2015 collections, which will be available in our Orchard Road stores," said Mr Mark Shaw, Chairman of ORBA.

"ORBA remains committed to making fashion accessible to all, and our six-week long fashion extravaganza offers something for every visitor to Orchard Road," he added.

This year, Samsung re-joins FSO 2015 as Official Technology Partner, and launches its latest Samsung Galaxy S6 4G+ and Galaxy S6 edge 4G+ in tandem with the fashion event of the year. In 2013, Samsung had headlined FSO with the launch of Samsung GALAXY S4 LTE.

"Samsung is honoured to once again collaborate with ORBA for this hallmark event that celebrates the work of some of the best talents in fashion and design. As an organisation, we believe in finding the perfect blend of beautiful craftsmanship and purpose. Similar to how the designers are pushing the boundaries for fashion, our team works relentlessly to capture what we love most about technology and design, as seen in the elegant and powerful new additions to our Samsung Galaxy portfolio, the new Galaxy S6 4G+ and Galaxy S6 edge 4G+," said Eugene Goh, Vice President, IT & Mobile, Samsung Electronics Singapore.

MasterCard(R) returns as the Official Card for FSO 2015 for the sixth year running.

"MasterCard data shows that over sixty percent of consumers do shop offline despite the popularity of online shopping, which shows that the in-store experience is still strongly valued. Through our support for Fashion Steps Out, we are pleased to offer cardholders with a passion for retail and fashion even greater rewards for shopping along Singapore's iconic Orchard Road," said Deborah Heng, Group Head and General Manager, MasterCard Singapore.

Singapore Tourism Board continues to be a supportive partner of FSO 2015.

"The sixth edition of Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard looks set to enliven Singapore's iconic shopping belt, with a variety of lifestyle experiences for visitors to enjoy. It is also meaningful that in commemoration of SG50, FSO will feature even more local designers and fashion this year. Our widely-recognised tourism symbol - the Merlion - will also be making a special appearance as a fashion muse for our local creative talents. These elements will certainly add another dimension of authenticity and fun for visitors and locals," said Ms Tan Yen Nee, Director, Lifestyle Precincts Development, Singapore Tourism Board.

- Fashion Splash - 1 - 21 May 2015

The iconic Singapore Merlion becomes a fashionista for FSO 2015. Reimagined with a modern, stylish and modernised edge, the figurines will be exhibited at orchardgateway Level 1. This Fashion Splash showcase is composed of 30 figurines (15 of which at 20cm in height; the other 15 at 40cm tall).

"My students and I are thrilled to be a part of Fashion Splash and look forward to dressing the iconic Merlion in celebration of Singapore's Jubilee Year. Dressing figurines is reminiscent of the early days of fashion in France, when fashion dolls were used to convey looks and showcase designs," said Giuseppe (Joe) Spinelli, Principal of Raffles Design Institute. "People can expect a modern and uniquely Singaporean twist to this old method of designing fashion and we are really excited to share our designs with the public," he added.

How Data Security is Strangling Companies and What to Do About It

$
0
0

NEW YORK, NY, Apr 12, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Data security is strangling many companies, according to Mike Dillon, Chief Technology Officer, Quest. "Security has taken over priority in businesses, strangling flexibility and growth. Many companies have dedicated all their technology initiatives to fortify their business, protect consumer or patient information, while initiatives that could help the organization grow and become more efficient operationally have taken a back seat. This is not the best approach," Dillon advises.

Quest, a technology management company, is a solution provider at the marcus evans CFO Summit XXX Spring 2015, May 14-16, and National Healthcare CXO Summit Spring 2015, May 17-19, both in Palm Beach, Florida.

- What risk management issues are businesses facing today in protecting customer or patient information?

The challenge we are seeing at the executive level is in knowing where all of their data originates, travels, and rests, where all the systems are being pulled from, and understanding their level of risk. The cloud environment and big data have added new twists - companies do not control where their data resides and probably do not control how it is protected.

Many executives think they have successfully transferred risk to an outside organization, their service provider is HIPPA certified and has all the different requirements covered, but that is a misconception. In reality, service providers are taking on contracts, but the business still owns the risk of what happens to their data and customer's personal information.

- Is this about selecting the right solution provider to handle the job?

Selecting the right service provider is a big deal, but the organization must be aware of risks, manage and mitigate them. It is about partnering with a provider, staying involved and being vigilant.

The risk of cybersecurity or an employee hitting the wrong button never goes away. A company cannot rely on purchasing a solution and forget all about it.

- Could this be handled in house?

Doing it in house can be much more expensive, and most organizations are not prepared for it. It is almost impossible for an in house IT department to maintain the expertise and monitor risks that pose serious business threats. So much is changing every day! It is better off partnering with a firm that focuses on IT, so the company can focus on initiatives which can help it innovate and grow.

When a company went into the business of healthcare, or whatever it might be, it was looking to provide the best care possible to its patients, but in today's world, it has almost become an IT business as it has to be so diligent with its IT, meeting compliance and regulations, and protecting data.

- How should they start off their risk management program?

The best approach is to begin with a consulting engagement, to have a probing discussion with Risk Management experts and outline a plan of action to mitigate risk. There may be areas they had not realized that might be at risk. This should be done before purchasing a product that will supposedly solve all their problems, as most of the time it does not.

Unlocking Value in the Chinese Economy

$

LONDON, Apr 12, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - "Family offices must be mindful of developments in Europe, and make sure to diversify into different geographies and asset classes that can still provide true diversification," advises Stefan Krauchi, Chief Executive Officer, HSZ (Hong Kong) Limited. China today offers many interesting investment opportunities, he adds.

HSZ (Hong Kong) Limited is an investment management company at the marcus evans Elite Summit 2015, taking place in Montreux, Switzerland, 18 - 20 May.

- What is your outlook on the economy? What should investors take into account, specifically with China?

Europe is going through some difficult times, with high unemployment, the debt problem in Greece and so on, which will not go away anytime soon. Quantitative easing will have a positive effect on European stock markets and while the Euro's devaluation will make Europe more competitive, it will make European returns less compelling when translated e.g. back into US Dollars. The US is doing better overall, so investors are expecting interest rates to go up sometime later this year.

There is a major demand problem on a global scale. Central banks are trying to stimulate demand, but it remains to be seen whether it will work.

In China, the official growth target for 2015 has been reduced to seven percent, which will still be a challenge given the size of the economy. We do see weaknesses in certain segments of the economy and oversupply in housing and some other areas. The Chinese government has recently introduced measures to stimulate the housing market. Moreover the market now expects more rounds of easing in order to achieve the GDP growth target.

Despite all the short-term noise we recommend investors to keep their eyes on the big picture as China is transforming itself from an export-led to a consumer-led economy.

- Why should investors consider Chinese equities? What value could it add to a private wealth portfolio?

We see many interesting opportunities in China which help to diversify away from European and US assets.

In many ways, China is moving away from "Made in China" to "Created in China". An increasing number of Chinese companies are competing in a global marketplace, be it in online commerce, infrastructure or making components for top manufacturers like Apple. Many positive things are happening, the economy is becoming more mature, and consumers more sophisticated and willing to pay for experiences rather than just goods. Financial companies are also starting to use the internet to their advantage.

- Why is local knowledge required to access equities in these industries?

Local knowledge is a must for investors who want to look beyond the major well researched companies, where the management easily communicates in English. We believe it is increasingly important to be closer to companies listed on the local Chinese stock exchanges. In general we see more value in entrepreneurial companies and stay away from conglomerates and state-owned organisations. We believe it is better to invest in companies with only one "boss", namely the shareholder. Moreover our bottom up value based approach requires intimate knowledge of the companies in our portfolio.

TOKYO, Apr 13, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - At the Hannover Messe event, Fujitsu Limited and Microsoft Corp. announced their collaboration to bring innovative operational excellence to manufacturing with the help of Fujitsu devices powered by Windows 8.1 Pro, the Internet of Things (IoT) services of FUJITSU Cloud A5 for Microsoft Azure, and the Fujitsu IoT/M2M (machine-to-machine) platform.

Having recognized a solution was needed to optimize processing by both machines and humans, Fujitsu brought together its Eco-Management Dashboard, the IoT/M2M platform, Microsoft cloud services and Windows tablets in a way that could enable managers, engineers and scientists to improve product quality, streamline systems and enhance functionality while reducing costs.

This solution is based on the innovative work Fujitsu performed in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan. Fujitsu converted its semiconductor manufacturing operations into its Akisai Plant Factory, a large-scale facility that integrates cutting-edge agricultural techniques with state-of-the-art manufacturing and information and communication technologies, such as the Fujitsu Akisai agricultural cloud. At this facility, Fujitsu is using a portion of its clean room areas to produce lettuce that is both delicious and low in potassium so it can be consumed by dialysis patients and people with chronic kidney disease. As a next step, Fujitsu is deploying its Eco-Management Dashboard and applying its IoT and M2M capabilities to realize even higher-quality products, enhanced functionality and greater productivity.

As part of this comprehensive solution, scattered data is input into the Microsoft Azure database and evaluated through advanced analytics and natural user interfaces. The Eco-Management Dashboard is used to help simultaneously manage product quality, process efficiency and equipment performance to improve operations and reduce energy costs. This solution can be replicated by other manufacturers and will be an enormous step in helping companies manage and consume data in the right ways, increasing productivity while saving time and money.

"Leveraging the Fujitsu Eco-Management Dashboard solution alongside Microsoft Azure and the Fujitsu IoT/M2M platform, we are able to deliver real-time visualization of the engineering process for big data analytics to improve the entire production process and inform decision-making," said Hiroyuki Sakai, corporate executive officer, executive vice president, head of Global Marketing at Fujitsu Limited.

"We are proud to partner with Fujitsu to enable the next generation of manufacturing business models and services enabled by IoT along with advanced analytics capabilities like machine learning," said Sanjay Ravi, managing director, Discrete Manufacturing Industry at Microsoft. "Fujitsu's innovation will drive new levels of operational excellence and accelerate the pace of digital business transformation in manufacturing."

Fujitsu and Microsoft are on the leading edge of advancing the next generation of manufacturing. Together, they are developing solutions that will help manufacturing customers be more productive and deliver higher-quality products. More information on this solution and a video about its application in high-tech cultivation is available on the Official Microsoft Blog.

The Clinic provides free professional consultation services for companies which cover various IT aspects including developing online capabilities, increasing sales, reducing costs and enhancing efficiency.

The ICT Expo also features a series of seminars covering topical issues including today's seminar on "e-Commerce on the Cloud" presented by SoftLayer. Tomorrow, Microsoft Corporation will hold its "Small Investment, Big Business with Microsoft Cloud Solutions" seminar, while Google and Shopline will join hands to co-host a workshop "Build and Promote your Online Business in 120 Minutes" on 15 April.

The latest fabulous applications can be found at the Apps Zone which features around 20 exhibitors including institutions, start-up companies and young apps developers. Mobile applications featured at the expo can help users to monitor their posture, facilitate event planning, monitor a child's location and even forecast the demand at food outlets to help reduce waste.

MTA VIETNAM: Free Trade Agreements Set to Boost Vietnam's Manufacturing Sector

$

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Apr 13, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - With lower taxes as a result of Free Trade Agreements (FTA) Vietnam inked with Australia, Chile, China, India, Japan and Korea, imports of industrial machinery and manufacturing equipment to Vietnam is expected to rise in 2015.

In January 2015, Vietnam's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) increased about 67 per cent to US$663 million from the same period last year. A total of 44 FDI projects were registered, with 19 new projects breaking ground in the same month. One of the investment sectors identified was manufacturing, which attracted about US$605 million.

As more foreign companies look to tap on Vietnam as an export production base, the local community as a consequence is spurred to accelerate its move up the value chain by upgrading current production capabilities with high end technologies.

"Vietnam's manufacturing industry has transformed and expanded in recent years due to opportunities presented as a result of its healthy labour pool and flow of foreign investment. Now, there is a rise in demand for high quality manufacturing tools and solutions which can help local companies increase their productivity and reduce cost in order to stay ahead of the evolving business climate, says Mr. William Lim, Project Director for MTA VIETNAM from the show's organiser, Singapore Exhibition Services.

"MTA VIETNAM is specifically tailored to meet this critical demand, by providing manufacturing professionals in Vietnam an established business platform to source for the latest technologies and best-selling products available in the global marketplace. In addition, the event also offers value-added seminars for the industry to discuss pertinent issues, trends and developments," he adds.

MTA VIETNAM2015: Showcase of advanced manufacturing solutions from around the world

Since 2005, MTA VIETNAM has played a pivotal role in bridging the international manufacturing industry and Vietnam market. The 2015 edition is expected to open with more than 280 international and local companies from 19 countries and regions, including 11 international groups from Germany, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.

An impressive number of industry's biggest international brands have confirmed their return to MTA VIETNAM to bring forth a myriad of manufacturing equipment and supplies that meet the critical needs of the local manufacturing players. They include Amada, Bystronic, Carl Zeiss, DMG MORI, Dine, Haas, Hurco, Guehring, Mazak, Mitutoyo, Mori, Nikon, Sandvik, Sodick, Studer, TRUMPF and many more.

Positive feedback from participants a clear sign of MTA VIETNAM's strong relevance

Many exhibitors were impressed with the progress made by the manufacturing industry. Remarking on last year's show, Dr Hans-Peter Laubscher, Managing Director-Asia Pacific of TRUMPF Pte Ltd said, "As Vietnam has moved towards the production of high quality and competitive products for both domestic and international markets, factories here are embracing advanced technology which is very necessary to achieve this. MTA VIETNAM - as the key technology platform in Vietnam - plays an important role in this. I am very pleased that the industry recognises our strong technology. FRANKFURT, GERMANY, Apr 14, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Lubrizol Engineered Polymers announces it will participate at the Techtextil international trade fair, to be held May 4-7 in Frankfurt, Germany. Lubrizol's stand will be located in booth A10 in Exhibit Hall 6.1, where Lubrizol will present its extended range of high-performance, breathable Estane(R) TPUs (thermoplastic polyurethanes).

The newly launched product offering spans across a wide-range of breathabilities-SD values as low as to 0.1 and hardnesses from 75 to 88 Shore A. Depending on the grade, customers can now enjoy the following benefits when selecting Estane breathable TPUs:

- Superior heat resistance
- Very easy processing via extrusion coating process: no pin holes with most non-woven substrates
- Very good bonding strength to various substrates such as PET or polypropylene
- Optimized UV resistance eliminating the need for any extra stabilization
- Very high water column obtained with similar values before and after UV and heat aging

"The use of TPU-based breathable roofing membranes is a growing trend in the quality building market in Europe. Placed underneath an unventilated pitched roof, breathable TPU allows homeowners to protect their insulation material by removing any moisture resulting from condensation," says James Ruben, market segment manager, film and sheet. "Breathable TPU roofing membranes are easier to install and more forgiving than competing materials due to their ultra-high mechanical resistance and total absence of holes. The product has the adequate UV stability to cope with UV exposure before the roof tiles are installed (irrespective of the color) and can handle the very high heat of a roof equipped with solar panels while maintaining its properties over a period of 25 years and beyond."

Latest Technologies and Solutions for 3D Printing, Automation and Robotics On Show At MTA2015

$

SINGAPORE, Apr 14, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Faced with challenges from rising costs, growing competition and the need to raise productivity, manufacturers have begun assuming greater technological leadership, especially in converging high-end manufacturing equipment with next-generation ICT.

These technological advances in automation, robotics and 3D printing are on showcase at MTA2015 - The Precision Engineering Industry Event. More than being a premier sourcing and networking ground for manufacturers in the region, MTA has evolved over the years to support companies in their progression along the value chain. Now one of the most established events for the manufacturing industry in Asia, MTA provides a platform where global and regional players congregate to seek business opportunities, network and expand their knowledge bank.

Open from today until Friday 17 April at the Singapore Expo, visitors to MTA2015 will get to interact with 350 companies from 27 countries and regions. These companies bring some of the world's most progressive precision engineering and machine tool technologies that are available in today's marketplace.

"At one-fifth of Singapore's GDP and employing half a million people, our manufacturing sector is re-structuring. It is heading towards high value-added engineering production. A number of our firms enjoy technology and market leadership in sub-sectors such as semiconductor equipment, diagnostic tools, biologics, hard disk drive media and offshore oil and gas platforms. Building on these achievements, we aspire to become an advanced manufacturing hub of tomorrow," said Mr. Lee Yi Shyan, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of National Development, and Guest-of-Honour at the MTA2015 opening ceremony held this morning at the event.

Mr. Lee also stressed that "manufacturing firms need to stay ahead of competition by aggressive adoption of the latest technologies, including additive manufacturing and robotics."

Focus on Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Solutions

3D Printing

Additive Manufacturing technologies, commonly known as 3D printing, have advanced to a stage whereby materials such as metal can be used to print parts for industrial use. The production process has also further streamlined with the aid of technology. Now, large parts such as pipes or propellers can be manufactured at one go instead of going through several processes commonly utilised if the part was manufactured conventionally.

A strong fleet of companies such as Creatz3D, DKSH Technology, EOS, Eye-2-Eye Communications and FreeForm Solution is showing the latest machine and software capabilities in 3D printing from some of industry's market leaders in this field. They include 3D Systems, Arcom AB, Envisiontec , Renishaw and Stratasys. The Additive Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), are showing a 3D printed tilted rotor aircraft model and a 3D printed concept car respectively.

3D printing technology tours are available for visitors to catch 3D capabilities in action through live demonstrations on the show floor.

Robotics and Automation

Faced with the need to operate sustainably, manufacturers have looked to investing in robots and automation solutions to raise productivity and enhance workflow. Global players such as ABB, Epson and Yaskawa are displaying robots developed to streamline manual labour processes, as well as industrial automation solutions that will improve efficiencies.

Capabilities Hub

In collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), MTA2015 presents 26 local parts and components manufacturers at this Capabilities Hub, which is created to meet the sourcing needs of high-value sectors of Aerospace, Complex Equipment, Medical Technology and Oil & Gas. Participants include MTA stalwarts such as A&ONE Precision Engineering, ACP Metal Finishing, CEI Contract Manufacturing, Eratech, Fujicon Engineering, Meiban Group, Microcast, Nanotechnology Manufacturing, Onn Wah Precision Machining, PCI, Shine Precision Engineering, SolidMicron Technologies and ST Kinetics Integrated Engineering.

MetrologyAsia2015

As manufacturing processes become more complex and sophisticated, highly detailed and precise measurements are often required. At MetrologyAsia2015, held alongside MTA2015, top metrology brands from around the world, such as Faro, Hexagon Metrology, Jenoptik, Mitutoyo, Nikon, Olympus, Optical Gaging, Renishaw and Wenzel, are on board to demonstrate cutting edge testing, measurement, and inspection applications and systems specially catered for the manufacturing sector.

Through strong support of international and local industry trade associations, visitors to this year's event will see home-grown technologies and services from international groups from Germany, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

"With technological advances in 3D printing and IoT, the manufacturing landscape in Singapore and the Asian region is primed for long term growth. The evolution of technology is opening up new possibilities for manufacturers, enabling them to customise their production to meet specific demands, fine-tune manufacturing processes to bring labour efficiencies and cost savings. MTA this year has dovetailed these advanced manufacturing technologies and solutions, to help companies remain sustainable and stay ahead of competition", said Ms. Lindy Wee, Chief Executive of Singapore Exhibition Services, organiser of MTA2015.

Platform for knowledge exchange

Industrie 4.0 and the integration of IoT and automation into manufacturing processes will be discussed at the Future Factories and Manufacturing Asia Conference. Featuring an exciting line up of speakers from local and regional organisations such as the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Board of Investment, Thailand, Frost & Sullivan, Rolls Royce and Siemens, delegates will gain a deeper understanding on the impact of Industrie 4.0 and advanced manufacturing.

Into its third edition, the International Conference on Optical and Photonic Engineering (icOPEN) organised by the Optics and Photonics Society of Singapore (OPSS) highlights the latest technologies and industry milestones relevant to optical and photonic engineering.

The Precision Engineering Centre of Innovation (PE COI) Annual Conference, jointly organised with SIMTech, brings to light new developments surrounding the precision engineering industry, including current business opportunities and challenges precision engineering companies face in today's challenging, competitive manufacturing landscape.

Commenting on the relevance of the event, Mr. Lee said that MTA2015 is an "up-to-date exhibition". With the introduction of the new 'Future Factories and Manufacturing Asia' conference, he noted that, "Such forward-looking vision is important for businesses in Singapore as we are always looking out for new technologies to embrace."

"Manufacturers are operating in a more challenging environment and it is of utmost importance for them to keep up-to-date with the trends and issues that are impacting the industry. Through these conferences, MTA helps industry professionals stay relevant through the exchange of ideas and experience with industry thought leaders, technical experts and business peers," added Ms. Wee.

The World of Gift Ideas welcomes 790 exhibitors with the latest products and unique gift ideas.

The fair's co-organiser, The Hong Kong Exporters' Association, has gathered some 220 exhibitors under its pavilion with three feature zones: Isle of Originality, Design Village and Brand Oasis. Local design talent will also be highlighted with winning entries of the fourth edition of Hong Kong Smart Gifts Design Awards on display at the Design Village.

Seminars, product demonstrations and launches together with networking events and promotional activities will focus on the latest trends in this premium gifts market.

Packed With Ideas

Jointly organised with CIEC Exhibition Company (HK) Limited, the concurrent Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair (27-30 April) at AsiaWorld-Expo presents printing & packing products, services, equipment and consumables as well as pre- and post-press logistics services. This 10th edition of the Printing & Packaging Fair will welcome more than 410 international exhibitors, including new companies from Belgium, Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam.

The prevailing industry trends will be highlighted at dedicated theme zones, including the De Luxe Zone and the Green Printing & Packaging Solutions Zone. For the first time, a new Beauty & Cosmetic Packaging Display Showcase will be located within the De Luxe Zone in response to huge demand in the sector. Also new to the show is the Festive Items Display.

A free shuttle bus service will run between HKCEC and AsiaWorld-Expo at regular intervals during the course of the Gifts & Premium Fair and Printing & Packaging Fair.

Celebrating 30 Years

A special feature this year is a display at Hall 1B Entrance of the HKCEC which tells the story of the evolution of both the Hong Kong Houseware Fair and the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair over the past three decades.
