Toyota City, Japan, Oct 20, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team takes on one of the most famous rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship with Rally GB from October 26-29. Drivers Jari-Matti Latvala, Juho Hanninen and Esapekka Lappi will head into the forests of Wales for the penultimate round of the season, looking to add to the strong potential displayed by the Yaris WRC during its debut campaign.

Car 11 (Juho Hanninen, Kaj Lindstrom)

Rally GB takes place over forest tracks through mid and north Wales. In dry conditions these stages can be driven at fairly high speeds, but in the Welsh autumn the pace is tempered by mud, which can make the surfaces treacherously slippery. Fog and even ice can add to the challenge, particularly early in the morning or late in the evening.

The rally begins on Thursday night with a new spectator stage at the Tir Prince trotting track on the north Welsh coast, east of the service park in Deeside. Friday consists of the classic Myherin, Sweet Lamb and Hafren stages, run twice with only a tyre fitting zone in between the two loops. A marathon Saturday features nine stages and ends in darkness. Five more stages conclude the action on Sunday, ending with the Brenig Power Stage.

Quotes:

Tommi Makinen (Team Principal)

"In 2003 I was fighting for the podium with Colin McRae on my last world championship rally, so personally I have really nice memories of Rally GB. It's the sort of place where you need a lot of confidence with the car, as often there is actually more grip than there appears to be. Then you have the fog and the rain, which is a big challenge. After Spain, we identified some things that we could do a bit differently, so it will be interesting to see the effect of these changes now. Conditions in our pre-event test were warmer than usual, but that should not affect us too much: in the end it is a question of dialling the car into the nature of the roads, and that doesn't really change. I think we're well-prepared."

Jari-Matti Latvala (Driver car 10)

"Britain is a bit like my second home as it's where I started my career and it was also my first world championship rally. There are some fantastic stages like Myherin and Dyfnant, which I'm looking forward to going back to. We obviously had a few technical issues in some of the recent rallies, but I feel confident that the team has got completely on top of those now and I just want to have two strong events to finish this incredible season. The first few rallies were challenging but maybe less demanding on the car than these events now at the end of the year, so we are learning more all the time as it is still only our first season as a team."

Juho Hanninen (Driver car 11)

"I'm happy with what we managed to do in Spain, so we go into Rally GB with a lot of confidence. This will be my last rally of the year, so most of all I just want to enjoy it. I've not actually competed there since 2014, but luckily most of the stages are still quite the same. Even though I don't have a huge amount of experience in Wales I've always liked it, so I want to make sure that this rally is a nice one for us. We don't have a particular plan: we just want to take it stage by stage and build on our pace. It's a strategy that has worked well before."

Esapekka Lappi (Driver car 12)

"Our pre-event test was good but it was very strange weather: I brought my winter jacket and my hat, but when I stepped out of the hotel it was 22 degrees! Still, I think what we worked on can still be useful if it's wet and muddy, which is normally what happens on Rally GB. I just hope that there's not too much fog, as that can be really difficult. We changed some suspension settings and there are a few other lessons that we learned from Spain that I was able to improve on, so we made a lot of progress during the test. Normally I have a good feeling with Rally GB, so now I'm looking forward to getting out on the stages and hopefully we can have a good result at the end."

Will contribute to manufacture of safer automobiles through use of simulations to analyze automotive collisions

TOKYO, Oct 23, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced that it has provided the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) with an x86 cluster that uses a liquid immersion cooling system, as a new computational system to simulate automobile collisions. Operations have commenced in October 2017.

The cluster system consists of Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY CX2550 M2 x86 servers in PRIMERGY CX400 M1 chassis, as well as a PRIMERGY RX2530 M2 as a management server. The system is cooled by applying a Fujitsu-developed liquid immersion cooling system, in which the servers are directly immersed in a non-conductive fluid with high thermal transport capacity.

This system runs software such as Fujitsu Technical Computing Solution LS-DYNA, which performs nonlinear structural dynamic analysis(1), currently in use at JARI, and is being used to develop exceptionally elaborate and realistic models of the human body, enabling the simulation of large-scale collisions at greater levels of energy saving. JARI will provide simulation results and the human body models developed using this system to the automobile industry to promote the manufacture of safer automobiles.

http://www.acnnewswire.com/topimg/Low_Fujitsu102317JARI.jpg
Photo: An x86 cluster using a liquid immersion cooling system in operation at JARI

Background

JARI conducts research into areas such as the safety of passengers and pedestrians when a vehicle collision occurs and the mechanisms of injuries, using both simulations which recreate vehicles and the human body on computers and real world experiments using actual vehicles and human body dummies. The results of this research are widely provided to the automobile industry.

As computer simulations can provide more information than experiments using physical dummies, they are expected to contribute significantly to automobile development and improvement. For this reason, JARI needed a system that could provide more accurate simulations while also reducing power consumption, and so decided to adopt this Fujitsu cluster system using a liquid immersion cooling system.

About the Newly Deployed System

1. System components

This cluster system uses 16 PRIMERGY CX2550 M2 x86 servers in PRIMERGY CX400 M1 chassis, each of which features two Intel Xeon E5-2643 v4 (3.4GHz) processors (a total of 32 CPUs and 192 cores), as its computational servers, with a PRIMERGY RX2530 M2 server as a management server. For cooling, the system is equipped with a liquid immersion cooling system, where the servers are directly immersed in non-conductive fluid.

2. Performance of the liquid immersion cooling system

Compared with conventional air cooling systems, the liquid immersion cooling system reduces burden on JARI in the following ways:

1. Significantly reduced power consumption
By eliminating the need for cooling fans within each server and air conditioning equipment for the server room, while also enabling the water temperature in water cooling equipment to be increased, this system can be expected to reduce power consumption by about 40% compared to conventional systems.

2. Limited facility investment costs
Because liquid immersion cooling systems do not require the air conditioned environment that ordinary air-cooled systems do, both air conditioning equipment and thermal building insulation become unnecessary, making a significant contribution to reducing facilities investment costs.

3. Extremely low noise
Server cooling fans and air conditioning equipment are not needed, making it possible to build a noise-free server room environment.

4. Highly tolerant to various installation environments
Servers are directly immersed in non-conductive fluid, so they are not in contact with the surrounding environment. For this reason, the system can be installed practically anywhere, because it is not necessary to consider air quality issues, namely with regard to humidity, salinity and dust, and the impact of other factors that must be taken into account when installing conventional servers.

Future Plans

Going forward, Fujitsu has plans to offer the liquid immersion cooling system worldwide as a product for cooling IT devices in non-conductive fluid.

(1) Nonlinear structural dynamic analysis software
Simulation software used for analysis of physical events such as collisions and impacts, falls, plastic processing, and piercing, tearing and other destruction.

Takumi
Introducing a people-friendly, next-generation taxi that embodies the spirit of Japanese hospitality

- People-friendly universal design(1), including low, flat floor and wide-opening rear sliding door
- Designed to harmonize with urban life but instantly recognizable as a taxi at a glance, with a deep indigo body
- Equipped with reinforced safety equipment, including Toyota Safety Sense C and six SRS airbags(2)

Toyota City, Japan, Oct 23, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) launched a new taxi vehicle, the "JPN Taxi." The new model became available today at Toyota and Toyopet dealers nationwide.

The JPN Taxi embodies the spirit of Japanese hospitality. It was developed to provide usability and comfort to a wide range of people, including children, seniors, wheelchair users, and visitors to Japan from abroad. Toyota aims to change Japan's landscape, develop barrier-free cities, and transform Japan into a tourist-oriented country by promoting the widespread use of its JPN Taxis.

The new model showcases a people-friendly, universal design that provides usability and comfort to a wide range of people through continual innovations and improvements, from grab handles to the overall vehicle structure. Design features include a low, flat floor, making it easy for customers to ingress and egress from the taxi, a wide-opening, power rear sliding door (left side only) and space to accommodate wheelchair users(3).

In addition, the taxi is designed to beautifully complement the cityscape while at the same time being easily recognizable as a taxi. This is achieved in part due to the car's styling, which aims to transcend trends and serve as a timeless classic model, as well as the body's deep indigo (koiai) tone, a traditional color that has long been a symbol of Japan.

Furthermore, this model offers the driver an optimal range of vision, in part through innovations to the position and shape of the pillars and the use of fender mirrors. As a design priority for this taxi model, functionality was improved by positioning the dashboard instruments and other devices in the taxi to allow easy access, including the placement of the GPS system and taxi meter in a spot that is easy for customers to see.

Environmental performance and power performance were both taken to new levels. By employing a newly developed liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) hybrid system, the new model offers 19.4 km/L4 fuel economy and sharply reduced CO2 emissions. Enhancements were made to safety equipment, including adding the Toyota Safety Sense C package and six SRS airbags as standard features.

Toyota began its venture into the taxi industry in Japan in 1936 with the introduction of the Toyota Model AA. In 1953, Toyota released the Toyopet Super RH model and other vehicles, which have become fixtures helping transport many people over the years. Toyota taxis have and will continue to travel greater distances than the average vehicle and be used in the toughest road conditions. This could be considered the starting point for automobiles that pursue a vision of ideal automotive development.

Toyota looks forward to exhibiting its JPN Taxi at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017, and also plans to use the taxi to greet visitors from around the world in 2020, when Tokyo hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Benjamin Chau, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director (5th L), David Chow (6th R), Tony Chow (4th L) and Grace Tai (5th R, President and Vice Presidents of the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association, attended today's press conference of the 25th Hong Kong Optical Fair to announce fair highlights and to present the awards for the 19th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition.
Hand-crafted Vintage Eyewear & High-tech Designs on Show

HONG KONG, Oct 23, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - The 25th edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong Optical Fair will be held from 8-10 November (Wednesday to Friday) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association, the three-day fair will feature a record 800 exhibitors from 26 countries and regions, including new exhibitors from Denmark, San Marino and Sweden. The Chinese mainland, France, Italy, Japan, Korea and Taiwan will mount group pavilions, while the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association and the Visionaries of Style will also set up pavilions, providing an all-round trading platform for the industry.

"The global spectacles market is enormous," said Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director, HKTDC, at today's press conference. "This year, global eyewear sales reached almost HK$1 trillion. As a centre for eyewear manufacturing and exports, Hong Kong's total exports of spectacles, lenses and frames in the first eight months of 2017 exceeded HK$13.8 billion, a four per cent year-on-year increase. This result was attributable to a strong rebound in demand in mature markets such as Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The United States is Hong Kong's top export market, followed by Italy and the Chinese mainland. Exports to ASEAN countries have also been satisfactory." Mr Chau added that Hong Kong has long been a key promotion platform and sourcing hub for eyewear, with more local manufactures expanding into Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) and Original Brand Manufacturing (OBM), targeting medium- to high-end markets and improving product quality to enhance competitiveness.

This year's Optical Fair will feature nine zones that showcase a broad spectrum of eyewear products to facilitate buyer sourcing. The Brand Name Gallery will feature more than 220 international brands, including 999.9, B1919 EYEWEAR, BLANC & ECLARE, EVISU, Freddie Wood, ic! berlin, Markus-t, MINIMA, MUZIK, Oh My Glasses TOKYO, PARIM, Savile Row, Stepper, Superdry and more. A number of eyewear parades will be held during the fair, with models showcasing the latest collections of several trend-setting eyewear brands.

Other zones include Contact Lens & Accessories; Sporting & Professional Eyewear; Kids Eyewear and Reading Glasses; Frames, Lens and Parts; Eyewear Accessories; Diagnostic Instruments; as well as Optometric Instruments & Machinery. Meanwhile, with the rapid development of mobile technology, e-Badge will be launched for the first time at the fair to enhance buyers' sourcing experience.

From hand-crafted vintage eyewear to high-tech designs, a spectacle of the latest trends

The scholarly style has been in vogue in recent years as are hand-crafted spectacles. At the show, several renowned brands known for hand-crafted eyewear will be featured, including Oh My Glasses TOKYO, CLASSICO and Savile Row. The popular Japanese brand 999.9, which specialises in comfortable, durable frames made with acetate and titanium will showcase its special-edition frame designed with its patented Gyaku-R for the overseas market. Another boutique Japanese eyewear brand, Matsuda, will display a pair of spectacles that fuses traditional Japanese design and western Gothic influences, showcasing a vintage and progressive design.

BLANC & ECLARE, a brand founded by Jessica, the multi-talented Korean superstar, will stage its debut show at the Optical Fair, featuring its glamorous sunglasses made in a hybrid acetate and metal style.

German exhibitor Freddie Wood is the first brand to construct frames using natural buffalo horn. The unique pattern of each frame is excellent for reflecting the wearer's distinctive style. Another German brand, ic! berlin, is famous for its bold and innovative designs. The brand's latest collection, which sports geometric patterns, was inspired by the Suprematist paintings of the 20th-century artist Malevich. The design highlights the harmony of the frame and face, presenting an elegant artistic impression.

Hong Kong is a renowned eyewear design and manufacturing centre. To showcase Hong Kong's creativity, the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association will feature a number of local brands at the Brand Name Gallery, including BIG HORN, CreationVC, Genic Eyewear, PAULO PILIPE and People by People. BIG HORN's creative, bold and innovative designs are highly sought after by international celebrities and stylists. Its collections have won several international awards, including Italy's A'Design Award and the US International Design Award. Hong Kong brand People by People, meanwhile, will showcase its new foldable sunglasses.

Smart eyewear has become a new trend with immense market potential for protective lenses. Shutoo Gavazzi Optical Ltd will feature its LCD lenses that change colours based on light conditions. It can change from sunglasses to colourless plain glasses in a second. The product also uses a patented technology for eye protection.

Eyewear Design Competition uncovers local creative talent

To foster local creativity and showcase Hong Kong designs to global buyers, the HKTDC has teamed up with the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association to jointly organise the 19th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition. Nearly 100 entries were submitted this year, and eight major awards were handed out at a press conference today. Under the theme "Free Flow," designers competed in the Open Group and Student Group categories. The entries were judged on such criteria as creativity, design, functionality and market potential.

Bo Bo Lai, winner of last year's competition, again clinched the Open Group Champion title this year as well as the Creativity Award. This time, Ms Lai used children's glasses and drew inspiration from animal traps for her work entitled "Monster Trap." The frame resembles a monster biting its prey, conveying the message that the human pursuit of knowledge is like animal hunting, which requires intense focus. For the Student Category, Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) student Chan Cho Man, won the championship with the work "Coiled." A minimalistic design in elegant gold colour, the sleek and streamlined frame accentuates the wearer's natural aesthetic qualities.

The Made-to-Sell Award was won by So Yiu Kwok. His design, made with stainless steel with retro leather temples, can be assembled in different ways to match the wearer's personality.

The winner of The Latest Look Award will be announced in the first evening (8 November) of the Optical Fair. From now until 8 November, buyers can vote for their favourite designs at the fair website. All winning and shortlisted entries will be displayed at Hall 1D during the fair to showcase Hong Kong's outstanding creativity to global buyers. Buyers can also cast their votes on-site, and the design with the most votes will win The Latest Look Award. Diverse events promote industry exchange

The 15th Hong Kong Optometric Conference will be held on the second day of the fair (9 November) under the theme "Neuro Vision Rehabilitation." The conference will feature experts from Hong Kong, Australia, Canada and the United States, including ophthalmology professor Eliezer Peli of the Harvard Medical School, who specialises in aging-eye research. The conference will examine such important topics as prismatic treatments and elderly neuro visual disorders. There will also be multiple seminars and workshops to facilitate market-intelligence exchange, including on Europe's retail and consumer trends and business opportunities in emerging markets. Renowned German research firm GfK has again been invited to speak on eyewear design and market trends.

Distributed, in-memory database enables correlation of customer profile, buying behaviour, sentiment and shopping trends based on cross-industry data sources in sub-seconds

JAKARTA, Oct 24, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - OVO, a member of Lippo Group Digital, has chosen Kinetica, provider of the world's fastest GPU-accelerated analytics database, and NVIDIA to spur innovation in big data and analytics that fully utilize a 360-degree customer view and derive real-time analytics and insights on shopping trends and the digital lifestyle.

Lippo Group is a prominent conglomerate with significant investments in digital technologies, education, financial services, healthcare, hospitality, media, IT, telecommunications, real estate, entertainment and retail. Aggressively investing in big data and analytics technology, OVO is Lippo Group Digital's concierge platform, integrating mobile payment, loyalty points, and exclusive priority deals.

With the support from Kinetica and NVIDIA, Lippo Group Digital will be the first enterprise to integrate an AI, in-memory, GPU database in Indonesia.

Lippo Group Digital's investment in big data and analytics technology aims to consolidate all their customer data that are being generated by all transactional systems from various subsidiaries into a centralized analytics platform. All subsidiary-fragmented data are to be consolidated and analysed to generate a 360-degree view of the customer profile and journey. OVO will be the main anchor to link customers 360-degrees and to enable delivery of personalized offers.

By having a big data API and AI platform in place, all Lippo Group touch point channels can introduce new and personalized experiences to customers in real time. By implementing Kinetica, Lippo Group's touch point channels are able to do queries through an analytic API that involves huge volumes and rich data sets in sub-second latency, compared to traditional technology which has seconds or minutes -- or even hours -- of latency.

Through Kinetica's GPU-accelerated database, Lippo is able to consolidate multiple dimensions of customer attributes, including demographics, cross-channel buying behaviour such as their sentiments as gained through social media, and interactions in-store and online. Furthermore, Lippo will be able to correlate customer, transaction and location information, and by using geospatial analytics, will deliver actionable insights for Lippo Group business units for a better understanding of business performance and help outperforming the competitors.

Adrian Suherman, CEO of Lippo Digital Group said: "Lippo Group is strongly committed to embracing innovation and using the latest technology to create a competitive advantage for business. At the core of every business within the Lippo Group is our customers. By harnessing technology and using it with much intensity, precision and speed, we are able to understand consumers better and meet their needs and expectations."

Lippo will soon embark on big data monetization to deliver a new, smart interactive digital channel. This new channel will infuse a new shopping experience for customers, and help marketers reach out to their audiences and better understand the customer journey.

"We take pride in partnering with NVIDIA to power the business of Lippo Group, one of Indonesia's business icons. We congratulate Lippo Group for its foresight in leveraging technology for business and for being the first enterprise to integrate an AI, in-memory, GPU database in Indonesia," said Joseph Lee, Vice President, Asia Pacific Japan at Kinetica.

"Given today's changing business and technological landscapes, ever-dynamic customer needs, tight profit margins, and shorter product cycles, businesses other than retail and e-commerce can gain real competitive advantage by leveraging big data analytics. The benefits of a 360-degree customer view and accelerated data processing to make informed operational and product decisions are easily transferrable other industries," added Lee.

Kinetica's broadly applicable in-memory database is powered by NVIDIA's graphics processing units (GPUs) and can run both on premise and in the cloud, including on Amazon Web Services, Dell-EMC, Google Cloud, IBM Minsky, and Microsoft Azure. As compared to legacy systems that are based on central processing units (CPUs), GPU-accelerated solutions have proven to be 10 to 100 times faster and at only one-tenth of the hardware costs.

"The advent of machine learning and deep learning technologies will bring about a slew of exciting opportunities to Indonesia's retail industry. Our joint solution with Kinetica will offer businesses in Indonesia unrivalled performances for advanced analytics," said Raymond Teh, Vice President, Asia Pacific, NVIDIA.

Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad Signs Agreement to Implement Kamakura Corporation Suite of Solutions for Asset & Liabilities Management, Funds Transfer Pricing and Liquidity Management

Martin Zorn, President and COO, Kamakura Corporation
NEW YORK, NY, Oct 24, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - Kamakura Corporation reported Wednesday that it had completed an agreement to implement the Kamakura Corporation suite of solutions for Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, an Islamic bank based in Malaysia that has been in operation since July 1983, for its balance sheet management, funds transfer pricing, and liquidity management processes.

Bank Islam was established primarily to assist the financial needs of Malaysia's Muslim population, and has since extended its services to the broader non-Muslim population fulfilling its "Banking-for-All" principle.

Bank Islam is the first Shariah-based banking institution in Malaysia and South-East Asia, and has been playing the leading role in the development of the nation's Islamic banking industry. In fact, it has provided technical assistance in the setting up of several Islamic institutions in the Asian region such as Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka. With over 70 innovative and sophisticated Islamic banking products and services, Bank Islam offers a comprehensive range of Shariah-compliant banking and financial solutions to its more than five million customers.

Primarily a retail bank with consumer banking constituting more than 70% of total financing, Bank Islam's list of products ranges from the traditional financing, savings and investment solutions exclusively for individual customers, to banking and financial solutions designed to fulfil the fast-changing financial needs of customers from all categories including those related to micro financing, wealth management, capital market, and treasury.

The project will involve the complete implementation of the balance sheet management and funds transfer pricing solutions and followed a comprehensive evaluation exercise involving a complete proof of concept. Dr. Clement Ooi, EVP and Managing Director, Asia-Pacific Operations, Kamakura Corporation stated, "Bank Islam had a very clear understanding of its risk management and liquidity compliance needs. The vendor selection process had an extensive testing routine, and the Kamakura suite of solutions was an apt fit.

"Bank Islam not only has a range of intriguing products, but also a transaction volume that necessitated in them seeking a modular and integrated solution. The project will provide the bank with accurate assessment of transaction cashflows that can then be used for gap, duration, and mismatch management, as well as an accurate assessment of the margins associated with the transaction. All of these can be modelled based on different market conditions implying that the bank is prepared for any adverse movements in market conditions."

Dr. Clement Ooi further stated, "Bank Islam has selected an integrated, holistic computation engine, and this certainly will be the platform upon which the bank will build its integrated risk framework. The bank will be one of the first to be able to generate both historical and forward-looking views of the balance sheet, a transaction-level understanding of the profit margins and a good appreciation of customer, product, business unit, and organisational profit and value dynamics.

"Kamakura Corporation has the full suite of risk management and regulatory compliance solutions including IAS39 / IFRS9, Basel II/III, Market risk, Credit risk, ALM, FTP, Liquidity Risk, Capital Management & Planning, Credit Estimation, Margin Management and Financial Accounting all through one integrated, holistic computation engine, and this certainly will be the platform upon which the bank will build its integrated risk framework."

Martin Zorn, President and COO for Kamakura Corporation, said Tuesday, "The successful implementation of the balance sheet management, funds transfer pricing, and liquidity compliance project in Bank Islam is a clear indicator that banks are no longer looking for fragmented solutions for risk and compliance, but seek to adopt a customised framework that allows for the repeated use of data loaded once for various aspects of risk and compliance. It is a testimony to the credentials of Kamakura's subject matter experts. Kamakura is well-positioned to meet the burgeoning regulatory demands imposed on financial institutions in the region and has the wherewithal to keep pace with regulation; as a matter of fact, what is currently being introduced as risk regulation has been available in Kamakura Risk Manager for the past ten years."

- Eisai has exercised its option to jointly develop and commercialize aducanumab, with Biogen continuing as development lead
- The expanded collaboration agreement leverages each company's respective geographic strengths for commercialization and adjusts the respective share of potential profits from potential sales of aducanumab
- Biogen and Eisai will now co-promote Biogen's multiple sclerosis (MS) treatments, AVONEX (interferon beta 1a), TYSABRI (natalizumab), and TECFIDERA (dimethyl fumarate) in Japan to accounts that Biogen currently does not call upon

TOKYO, Oct 24, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Eisai Co., Ltd. and Biogen Inc. announced today that the companies have expanded their existing agreement to jointly develop and commercialize investigational Alzheimer's disease treatments.
Under the terms of the agreement Eisai has exercised its option to co-develop and copromote aducanumab, Biogen's investigational anti-amyloid beta (A beta) antibody for patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD).

The expanded agreement leverages each company's respective geographic strengths for commercialization and adjusts the respective share of profits from potential sales of aducanumab. Biogen will receive 55 percent of the potential profits in the United States and 68.5 percent of the potential profits in Europe. Eisai will receive 80 percent of the potential profits in Japan and Asia (excluding China and South Korea). The companies will have a 50:50 co-promotion split of potential profits in the rest of the world. Further, Biogen will book sales in the United States, Europe, and rest of world markets while Eisai will book sales in Japan and Asia (excluding China, South Korea).

Biogen will continue to lead the ongoing Phase 3 development of aducanumab and will remain solely responsible for all development costs for aducanumab until April 2018. Eisai will then reimburse Biogen for 15 percent of expenses from April 2018 through December 2018, and 45 percent from January 2019 onwards.

Neither party is making any upfront payments associated with the exercise of the aducanumab option. Furthermore, Eisai's and Biogen's respective milestone payments under the original agreement for aducanumab and BAN2401, an anti-A beta protofibril antibody, have been eliminated.

The companies will continue to jointly develop elenbecestat(1) (E2609), a beta amyloid cleaving enzyme (BACE) inhibitor, and BAN2401. The financial terms for elenbecestat and BAN2401 remain unchanged, other than the eliminated BAN2401 milestone payments.

Additionally, Eisai and Biogen have agreed to co-promote Biogen's multiple sclerosis (MS) treatments, AVONEX (interferon beta-1a), TYSABRI (natalizumab) and TECFIDERA (dimethyl fumarate) in Japan to those accounts that Biogen currently does not call upon.

Eisai will also distribute and book sales for AVONEX, TYSABRI, TECFIDERA and PLEGRIDY (peginterferon beta-1a) in India and other Asia-Pacific markets (excluding China).

"Through this new agreement, we believe we have improved our ability to maximize the value of aducanumab and expand the potential reach of our industry-leading multiple sclerosis portfolio," said Michel Vounatsos, Chief Executive Officer of Biogen. "The ongoing collaboration between Biogen and Eisai leverages our respective expertise and strengths in our efforts to bring new treatments to patients and families affected by Alzheimer's disease."

Eisai CEO Haruo Naito commented, "Genetic epidemiological studies such as the Icelandic genetic research as well as the knowledge recently gained from various clinical studies such as the aducanumab Phase 1b trial have deepened our conviction in the amyloid hypothesis. We hope to establish a new treatment paradigm for fighting dementia by expanding the strategic collaboration between Biogen, a company that leverages its cutting-edge biotechnology to develop innovative therapies for people living with serious neurological and neurodegenerative diseases, and Eisai, a company which possesses a rich pipeline based on holistic approaches. In accordance with this new paradigm, we plan to further co-develop the collaboration products and hope to advance the world's potentially first new treatment for Alzheimer's disease based on the amyloid hypothesis. Through the collaboration and by leveraging each company's respective strengths in each region, we hope to maximize the benefits for patients and their families."

(1) The generic name is not yet fixed at this time.

About Aducanumab (BIIB037)

Aducanumab (BIIB037) is an investigational drug being developed for the treatment of AD. Aducanumab is a human recombinant monoclonal antibody (mAb) derived from a deidentified library of B cells collected from healthy elderly subjects with no signs of cognitive impairment or cognitively impaired elderly subjects with unusually slow cognitive decline using Neurimmune's technology platform called Reverse Translational Medicine (RTM). Biogen licensed aducanumab from Neurimmune under a collaborative development and license agreement.

Aducanumab is thought to target aggregated forms of beta amyloid including soluble oligomers and insoluble fibrils which can form into amyloid plaque in the brain of AD patients. Based on pre-clinical and Phase 1b data to date, treatment with aducanumab has been shown to reduce amyloid plaque levels.

In August 2016 aducanumab was accepted into the European Medicines Agency's PRIME program. In September 2016 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration accepted aducanumab into its Fast Track program and in April 2017 aducanumab was accepted into the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's (MHLW) SAKIGAKE* Designation System.

*SAKIGAKE aims at shortening premarket review period for innovative new medical products that satisfy certain criteria, such as severity of intended indication, by designating such products during the early stages of development, and providing prioritized consultation services and premarket pharmaceutical affairs review. The target review period for the designated products may be reduced to as short as 6 months, half the standard review period of 12 months for typical new pharmaceutical products.

Collaboration for multiple sclerosis treatments in Japan and Asia

Eisai and Biogen will enter into a sales collaboration to further expand contributions to patients in Japan and Asia (excluding China) through Biogen's MS treatments. In Japan, Eisai will co-promote AVONEX, TYSABRI, and TECIFIDERA, MS treatments for which Biogen holds the rights, to accounts that Biogen currently does not call upon. In Asia (excluding China), Eisai now has sole promotion rights for the above three products as well as PLEGRIDY.

About Biogen

Biogen discovers, develops and delivers worldwide innovative therapies for people living with serious neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. Fujitsu plans to decarbonize its own business by 2050 using ICT and work to mitigate and adapt to climate change through its business activities.

CDP is an international non-profit organization that surveys companies about their responses to climate change and their management of water resources, on behalf of institutional investors that have total investment assets in excess of $100 trillion. In 2017, more than 3,000 companies were surveyed worldwide.

The Fujitsu Group's Initiatives in Climate Change and Water Management

The Fujitsu Group laid out its medium- to long-term environmental vision, the Fujitsu Climate and Energy Vision, in May 2017. The group is working to achieve both zero CO2 emissions from its own business and create a decarbonized society through the use of AI and other technologies that support digital transformation. Also, the group is taking measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change through its business activities, and for example, contributes to the construction of more resilient social infrastructure. In addition, as part of the Fujitsu Group Environmental Action Plan (Stage VIII) which set environmental targets for the three years following fiscal 2016, Fujitsu is making efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain while working to reduce the volume of water it uses through such measures as recycling purified water and saving water at manufacturing sites.

SGX-Listed Singapore eDevelopment Subsidiary Global BioLife Develops Breakthrough Modified Sugar

$

SINGAPORE, Oct 24, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - SGX-listed Singapore eDevelopment Ltd ("SeD") announced today that U.S. biomedical subsidiary Global BioLife Inc. has developed a breakthrough low-calorie, low glycemic index, natural, modified sugar Laetose -- which has the potential to affect the world's sugar market.

Global Biolife has established a collaboration with top U.S. candy manufacturer Quality Candy Company LLC for the development, manufacture and global distribution of Laetose.

Developed by Mr Daryl L.Thompson, Global BioLife Director of Scientific Initiatives, Laetose is a functional sugar with a 30% to 50% lower calorie-count than regular sugar, possesses low glycemic properties, and also assists in mitigating inflammatory responses.

According to a World Health Organisation report released in Oct '17, the number of obese children aged 5 to 19 rose globally more than ten-fold from 11mil in 1975 to 124mil in 2016. The World Health Organisation report said that countries should seek to reduce consumption of cheap, ultra-processed, calorie-dense nutrition-poor foods.

Studies have shown that excessive sugar consumption is the primary cause of modern diseases such as cardiovascular disease, Type-2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and obesity. While sugar is not toxic, the human body perceives it as such and, in turn, initiates pro-inflammatory responses. Laetose could help mitigate such reactions by reducing the rate of glucose absorption throughout the body.

Quality Candy has a Safe Quality Food ("SQF") Level 3 - Excellent certified manufacturing facility and is a leading manufacturer and distributer of high-quality candy with distribution in locations across the globe. They will utilize their state-of-the-art facility and expertise to manufacture Laetose according to the unique formula discovered by Global BioLife.

"In this day and age, we should be exploring ways to make smarter foods. Our Laetose modified sugar has been designed specifically for this purpose," said Global BioLife's Mr Thompson, a pioneering natural products scientist cited, amongst others, for his achievements in organic and carbohydrate chemistry.

Mr Chan Heng Fai, Executive Chairman of SeD, said: "Cardiovascular disease, Type-2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and obesity have become a global epidemic. SeD has invested in Global BioLife as a think tank designed to research and develop smarter consumer products to reverse or mitigate this growing trend."

"Quality Candy has been on a quest for over a decade, looking for a natural sugar substitute," said Mr Jim Gist, Chief Revenue Officer of Quality Candy. "This product is finally the breakthrough our industry needed to improve existing reduced-calorie and sugar-free products and help consumers around the world live a healthier lifestyle."

The market for a safe and affordable alternative to sugar is growing due to increasing awareness of health risks associated with the excessive consumption of refined sugar. Although Laetose is marketed as an alternative usable in everything from baking to cooking, and as a tabletop sweetener, the ultimate goal is to infuse Laetose into the multibillion-dollar beverage industry. Unlike other natural-based and artificial sweeteners widely used in beverages, Laetose's unique patent-pending formula has no aftertaste.

"Due to the perceived toxicity of prolonged use of artificial sweeteners and the inability to use them as a direct replacement for sugar in baking and many beverages, we believe our product will have a direct advantage. We believe that the world is looking for a way to maintain sweetness while avoiding the negative effects of sugar and we intend to provide the solution," Mr Thompson added.

Dr Peggy Tang, Global BioLife CEO, said: "Laetose is our first step in creating smarter foods. We have confidence that our collaboration with industry leader Quality Candy will enable us to accomplish our goal."

- Innovative human machine interface to be featured on 2018 Lexus LS; delivers safety and convenience to drivers -

KARIYA, JAPAN, Oct 25, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - DENSO, one of the world's largest automotive technology, systems and components suppliers, today announced it has developed a thin-film transistor (TFT), liquid-crystal head-up display (HUD) to project critical driving information onto the windshield for drivers. This human machine interface (HMI) is the world's largest automotive head-up display(1) with a nearly 24-inch projection. The product will be released in November 2017 and featured on the new 2018 Lexus LS.

DENSO's new HUD projects a virtual screen approximately three meters ahead of the driver, enabling the driver to more intuitively access key information about the vehicle and its surroundings without changing direction of gaze. The technology displays not only basic information, such as speed limits and the vehicle's driving speed, but also the locations of pedestrians through external sensors. It also provides lane guidance assistance by using an automotive navigation system featuring an arrow indicating the appropriate lane to follow at junctions and intersections.

Additionally, the HUD takes into consideration the relative position of information displayed, its colors and other visual effects - all without obstructing driving. Its display is brighter than conventional HUDs to ensure screen visibility in bright, daytime conditions.

HUDs do not require drivers to look far away from the road, and thus are expected to emerge as a key technology for manufacturers across the globe. DENSO has produced HUDs since 1991 and will continue to develop and provide innovative safety products as it pursues creating a society free from traffic accidents.
