Proposing a co-creation approach to realize success for business and society

TOKYO, Apr 18, 2018 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today released the latest evolution of the Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision. Fujitsu's global theme this year is 'Co-creation for Success'. Fujitsu has been engaged in many co-creation projects with customers and partners, which have delivered successful outcomes ranging from improvement of efficiency in manufacturing to the transformation of the customer experience in retail and financial services. Today, digital co-creation is shifting into a new phase, from proof of concept to new business creation. In the vision this year, Fujitsu introduces key success factors for digital transformation, while proposing a new approach to transforming data into value, trends in breakthrough technologies, and new business and societal models in the era of IoT, AI, and Blockchain. Rapid advances in digital technology are transforming our daily lives, our businesses, and entire industries. Business leaders have told us digital transformation is not easy, however, and creates many challenges. Nevertheless, organizations can overcome these challenges by setting out their future visions, building ecosystems, and exploiting data to create value. Fujitsu first published the Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision in April 2013 and has updated it annually since then. The key concept of this vision is how digital technology can empower people to create significant value for business and society. Fujitsu calls this approach Human Centric Innovation, the key to driving digital transformation.

The following three new key messages are introduced in Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision 2018.

1. Six success factors for digital transformation - Digital Muscles

The digital landscape is uneven, and transformation is taking place at different speeds across different industries. Nevertheless, organizations that delivered greater outcomes showed higher capabilities across six factors: Leadership, People, Agility, Business Integration, Ecosystem and Value from Data. We call these six success factors 'digital muscles'. The stronger their digital muscles, the better the likelihood of delivering success. This indicates that digital transformation is not just about introducing digital technology, but it is a journey affecting every part of the enterprise.

2. Fujitsu's approach to creating value from data, and its breakthrough technology

Deep learning and other AI technologies are evolving remarkably, but exploiting data is not just a technology challenge. To generate substantial business and societal outcomes, it is crucial to apply the most appropriate AI technologies across different types of data. To do this requires the integration of business experience and technological knowhow. To deliver success through co-creation with customers, Fujitsu provides a digital business platform, solutions and services, which connect AI, IoT, Cloud and Security technologies. In addition, Fujitsu is pushing the boundaries of technology to solve business and social challenges. For example, Fujitsu has realized the implementation of 'Explainable AI'. Fujitsu's Human Centric AI Zinrai is able to explain the logic behind its insights, while other existing AI technologies are not able to do so. Another breakthrough technology is Fujitsu's new computing architecture, called Digital Annealer, which is able to solve complex combinatorial optimization problems that conventional computers cannot handle.

3. An autonomous and distributed society, where people and AI will collaborate

In this era of IoT, AI, and Blockchain, Fujitsu believes a new type of organization called a Learning Enterprise will emerge. In this Learning Enterprise, people will collaborate with AI to learn from experience and data, and continuously create innovation. Data is causing the transformation of entire industries, a significant shift from vertically integrated value chains to distributed ecosystems. In a hyperconnected world, Blockchain and new advanced security technologies will underwrite uncertainty in transactions and assure the trustworthiness of data. Interconnected ecosystems have the potential to evolve into an autonomous and distributed network society. We call this a Human Centric Intelligent Society, and have been working to realize this vision for many years. Fujitsu's vision is closely aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are committed to contributing to the SDGs through working toward our vision. Fujitsu is leveraging its knowledge gained in using the latest digital technologies and its track record in building and operating systems in a wide range of industries. With this, we aim to be the business partner of choice for co-creation in digital transformation, to play a key role in our customers' success.

What's Next in Making Smart Cities Smarter and Happier?

Emil Chan, Chairman of FinTech Committee, Smart City Consortium and Founding Chairman of the Association of Cloud and Mobile Computing Professionals
Panel on "Next-Generation Smart City Solutions" at the HKTDC International ICT Expo
ICT Expo Seminar Explores Next-Generation Solutions

HONG KONG, Apr 18, 2018 - (ACN Newswire) - How will smart cities become even smarter? The answer lies not in simply integrating advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing, but in making the system work for individual societies.

This was the key message at the 16 April seminar "Next-Generation Smart City Solutions," organised by the HKTDC during the 15th edition of the International ICT Expo at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Three prominent experts from leading US, Japanese and Chinese tech companies explored where smart city technologies are headed.

Moderator Emil Chan, from the Smart City Consortium, which assists the Hong Kong SAR Government in developing Hong Kong as the region's leading smart city, set the tone by proposing that "making cities both smarter and happier" is the ultimate goal. Beyond the technological vision, the aim is also to educate by "making smarter people and changing the general mindset."

Empowering cities with 'Microsoft CityNext Solutions' --

Continuing the theme, Hong Kong ICT industry veteran Fred Sheu, National Technology Officer at Microsoft Hong Kong Ltd, explained how the US tech giant's CityNext Solutions is empowering cities to be "more sustainable, prosperous and inclusive."

CityNext connects civic systems and services with world-class technology through safe and secure cloud computing that makes smart city solutions "more affordable and economically viable than ever before," he said.

Microsoft recently signed a memorandum of understanding to promote and help Hong Kong's Smart City vision "move forward into the future" under six key areas: smart mobility, smart living, smart environment, smart people, smart government and smart economy.

With a growing list of around 70 initiatives underway, Mr Sheu said "smart lamp posts" are not far off, with HK$20 million earmarked to explore how the lamp posts can incorporate 5G and audio-video surveillance.

Parking management solutions will also simplify parking, with sensors notifying drivers of available spaces via digital sensors and apps, and electronic payment through the same vehicle devices. "Motorists can even book parking space online in advance, saving a lot of time driving around looking for somewhere to park," he said.

Intelligent care for the elderly is also becoming a reality - "especially beneficial in Hong Kong, where a lot of elderly people prefer to live at home." Motion and environmental sensors monitor movement and conditions at home, raising the alarm in emergencies. Cloud-based health information management systems are already making health records more readily accessible to doctors and clinics.

But Mr Sheu is convinced that "education is the real key" to the future of smart cities, and urged more training on the technology - not only at universities, but also at high schools, equipping the younger generation for a very different future.

Among Microsoft's own educational initiatives is its AI School (aischool.microsoft.com), a free programme explaining next-generation solutions that "extend software beyond the app... to learn how to be an expert supporting Hong Kong's smart city development."

NEC's Artificial Intelligence for Smart Cities --

Gary Tai, Business Director, NEC Hong Kong, introduced the Japanese multinational's initiatives in smart city technologies, along with their accompanying social obligations. Best-known in Hong Kong as a market leader in smart TVs, NEC also leads the market globally in artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, and is "on a mission as a social value creation company contributing to the future of societies," he said. "In the face of serious social issues worldwide, we want to make life easier and more efficient for everyone."

In earthquake-prone Japan, for example, casualty rates are lowest on train networks equipped with NEC sensors that detect tremors, raising instant alerts. Partnering with governments around the world, the company has developed technology such as CCTV camera systems that not only observe streets, but also detect inconsistent and unusual behaviour, such as walking back and forth, or loitering beside cars. In the crime-plagued Argentine city of Tigre, which suffered a tourism slump as a result of its reputation, NEC's intervention reduced car thefts by 80 per cent in five years.

In Singapore, "smell sensors" identify offensive street stalls in the tourist centre of Orchard Road, "keeping a decent area decent." In Hong Kong, two out of the three main bus companies use NEC technology that improves safety and eases congestion, while improving absenteeism rates. "Our technology can even establish the attention level of drivers," he said.

Empowerment of cities also extends to Santander City in Barcelona, with "smart waste collection" reducing vehicle emissions, improving traffic flow and cutting operating costs by 15 per cent, by efficiently monitoring waste volumes and adjusting collection intervals accordingly. "We look forward to working with more utility companies, authorities and governments in the future," said Mr Tai.

ZTE Exporting China 'Smart City Vision and Concepts' Globally --

Meanwhile, Renchu Bai, Marketing Director of Government & Enterprise Department from Chinese multinational telecommunications and systems giant ZTE, explained the thinking behind the company's 'Smart City Vision and Concepts'.

He noted that ZTE's solutions for improving public services extended across 160 cities in 45 countries powered by 40 big data centres worldwide.

Projects "making public services more efficient" range from education and pollution to traffic control and public safety - extending to India, Bangladesh and Indonesia in Asia, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina in South America, Ethiopia and Egypt in Africa, and Germany, France, Hungary, Romania and Holland in Europe.

"Smart city development should be looked at from three perspectives," he said, with the software and hardware of the latest IT and communications technology - such as 5G, IoT, AI and blockchain, integrated through cloud connectivity and big data - serving as a means to an end.

"You can't build smart cities in a day," he said. "You need to take it step by step, ultimately integrating everyone in the smart city ecosystem. Most of the technology is already there; the challenge is finding a way to use it, and a business model that makes it become a reality."

The Smart City Seminar Series, held during the HKTDC Hong Kong International ICT Expo 2018, featured industry experts exploring such topics as Internet security, Fintech, developing smart business through IoT applications, as well as how disruptive technology is driving smart city development, smart mobility and logistics, smart home trends and electronic ID.

JCB will conduct a pilot trial of its Biometrics Card with fingerprint, with IDEMIA, a global Augmented Identity leader, and Toppan Printing.
To test improved security and usability of contactless chip card with biometric authentication

TOKYO, Apr 18, 2018 - (ACN Newswire) - JCB Co. Ltd, the only international payments brand based in Japan, will conduct a pilot trial of its latest JCB Biometrics Card with fingerprint authentication. JCB Contactless's payment solution is provided by IDEMIA, a global Augmented Identity leader. Toppan Printing will also take part in the demonstration trial in respect of card personalization.

Users first record one or more fingerprints for authentication purposes. When they want to buy something, they need only touch the fingerprint sensor on the card's lower right corner with their finger so as to authenticate payment. The fingerprint record is only kept in the card, and given that fingerprint authentication is also done on the card, merchants do not need any further equipment to accept payment.

While currently most contact chip cards rely on users entering a PIN number for authentication, will be replaced by the fingerprint authentication. With the new JCB Biometrics Card strict security is upheld with fingerprint authentication for any payment method, while maintaining efficiency and speed.

The pilot trial first involves issuing the JCB Biometric Card to JCB employees from April. Once card users have recorded their fingerprints using a smartphone or tablet app, they can make purchases via fingerprint authentication at merchants accepting JCB Contactless payments. The purpose of the pilot is to validate whether the solution is convenient for consumers and practical for the payment.

JCB will continue to explore and develop various authentication solutions in order to provide consumers with reliable and secure customer experiences.

A first-in-class anti-CD25 Treg depleting antibody which enables Teff responses for optimal anti-cancer activity

London and Stevenage, UK, Apr 18, 2018 - (ACN Newswire) - Tusk Therapeutics, an immuno-oncology company focused on developing immune-modulating therapeutics by targeting immune cells in cancer, presented pre-clinical proof-of-concept data generated in collaboration with Cancer Research UK and University College London (UCL), relating to its anti-CD25 programme at the 2018 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

Tusk Therapeutics presented data on its first-in-class anti-CD25 programme that has entered pre-clinical development. The antibody depletes regulatory T cells (Tregs) while preserving IL-2 binding and signalling on effector T cells (Teffs). Tusk, together with the University College London research group led by Dr. Sergio Quezada, has shown that targeting Tregs with non-IL-2 blocking anti-CD25 antibodies creates highly potent anti-tumour responses in monotherapy and combination therapy. Proof-of-concept has been established in multiple pre-clinical models.

Tregs, a subpopulation of T cells, are key players in the suppressive tumour microenvironment (TME). Tregs in the TME hinder the body's ability to control the growth of cancerous cells and their presence is correlated with a worse prognosis in multiple cancers. Effective Treg targeting has been a topic in the cancer field for several years and Tusk's approach demonstrates it is possible to deplete Tregs in solid tumour which leads to tumour control. Tusk's antibody is specifically selected to preserve signalling of the IL-2 cytokine on effector cells which is a key regulator of immune-activation.

Commenting on the data, Luc Dochez, Chief Executive Officer of Tusk Therapeutics, said: "The data presented at AACR demonstrate the unique mechanism of action of our anti-CD25 antibody. Unlike existing aCD25 antibodies our antibody has the ability to deplete Tregs without inhibiting effector cell responses. Based on the promising pre-clinical data, we believe that our anti-CD25 candidates will be an ideal combination partner for existing standard of care and immuno-oncology treatments."

The data was presented as an oral presentation by Dr. Sergio Quezada, Group Leader and Cancer Research UK Senior Research Fellow at The UCL Cancer Institute, and Chairman of Tusk Therapeutics' Scientific Advisory Board and in two posters, presented by the Tusk and UCL teams. Tusk Therapeutics' first-in-class anti-CD25 antibody programme was built on novel biology discovered by Tusk Therapeutics in collaboration with Dr. Quezada and his team at UCL. Tusk Therapeutics, Cancer Research UK (via its Commercial Partnerships Team) and UCL announced in 2017, an exclusive licensing and collaboration deal to develop and commercialise antibody-based therapeutics against CD25.

AI to be used to brew DASSAI sake in trial intended to make AI practical in sake brewing

TOKYO, Apr 19, 2018 - (JCN Newswire) - Asahi Shuzo Co., Ltd., Fujitsu Limited, and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced that they will conduct a joint field trial to brew DASSAI sake, a rice wine brewed and marketed by Asahi Shuzo, using a Fujitsu Laboratories-developed predictive artificial intelligence model that supports the brewing of sake.

By combining a mathematical model defining the process of sake brewing with machine learning that uses data obtained in the brewing of DASSAI, this predictive AI model technology will provide data to support an optimized sake brewing process. In this field trial, by using such technology in actual DASSAI brewing operations, Fujitsu and Asahi Shuzo seek to improve both the validity and the accuracy of the predictive AI model, while evaluating how practical AI can be in sake brewing.

Through this field trial, Asahi Shuzo, Fujitsu, and Fujitsu Laboratories will use AI to support brewing operations, and will endeavor to consistently produce a stable supply of high quality DASSAI sake.

Background

Asahi Shuzo promotes a vision of "brewing sake for sipping and enjoying, not sake for drinking or for the sole purpose of sales," in its ongoing drive to brew sake with the utmost attention to quality. As Japan's society is aging, however, labor shortages are expected in sake brewing facilities, and there are concerns in maintaining a stable supply and the high quality of DASSAI. To address this issue, the company has been working for many years to record and systematize its experience in sake brewing.

With the goal of ensuring stable procurement of Yamada Nishiki, a variety of rice ideally suited to brewing sake, from April 2014 Asahi Shuzo deployed Fujitsu's food and agriculture cloud, "Akisai," to farms where it had contracted to grow rice in an initiative to systematize and share agricultural techniques for optimal sake rice cultivation.

Fujitsu and Asahi Shuzo have now launched a joint field trial to systematize the experience and knowhow of each employee with regard to brewing high-quality sake by applying Fujitsu's artificial intelligence technology, Fujitsu Human Centric AI Zinrai, to sake brewing.

Details of the Field Trial

1. Time period

April-June 2018 (planned)

2. Trial objective

This trial will review and evaluate the applicability of the predictive AI model, which is developed with data accumulated by Asahi Shuzo, such as temperature and the proportion by weight of different ingredients, by calculating predicted values throughout the brewing process. In addition, the companies aim to improve the accuracy of the predictive AI model by incorporating actual data obtained on site during brewing, and the activities of employees based on their experience and intuition.

3. Field trial details

This field trial will be conducted as part of Asahi Shuzo's DASSAI sake brewing process. The elements that make up sake and other data will be measured by Asahi Shuzo, and based on this data, the predictive AI model developed by Fujitsu Laboratories will be used to provide information supporting an optimal sake brewing process.

Asahi Shuzo will undertake its sake brewing process with the goal of creating optimal sake, based on supporting information provided by Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories.

By conducting this field trial for two cycles, the companies will improve both the accuracy of the predictive AI model, and evaluate its effectiveness, as well as the practicality of AI in sake brewing.

4. About the predictive AI model

The predictive AI model developed by Fujitsu Laboratories is a technology capable of computing information to support optimized processes in sake brewing, by combining a mathematical model defining the procedure of sake brewing with machine learning using measured values for the components found in sake, based Asahi Shuzo's past brewing data and knowledge including the biological process of fermentation. Using the supporting information computed by the predictive AI model, Asahi Shuzo can optimally control the devices used in the sake brewing process. By incorporating the data gained from this field trial and the feedback from Asahi Shuzo, the companies will improve prediction accuracy and the sophistication of the supporting information, enabling the system to assist with even more optimized sake brewing.

TOKYO, Apr 19, 2018 - (JCN Newswire) - Eisai's subsidiary for gastrointestinal diseases EA Pharma Co., Ltd. and Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. today announced that the bile acid transporter inhibitor "GOOFICE 5mg Tablet" (nonproprietary name: elobixibat hydrate; development code: AJG533) was listed in Japan's National Health Insurance Drug Price List as of April 18, 2018, and EA Pharma and Mochida launched the product onto Japan's market today.

GOOFICE Tablet, which EA Pharma in-licensed from Albireo AB (Sweden), is a once-daily, orally available constipation treatment with a novel action mechanism. GOOFICE Tablet inhibits the bile acid transporter that regulates reabsorption of bile acids thereby increasing the flow of bile acids to the colon. The dual action of moisture secretion and bowel movement promotion is expected to enhance natural defecation. GOOFICE Tablet is the first ileal bile acid transporter inhibitor approved anywhere in the world.

Constipation is a very common disease. The prevalence is high in young women and both elderly men and women. In Japan, the number of patients with subjective symptoms of constipation is estimated to be about 4.5 million1). In constipation, symptoms such as sensation of incomplete evacuation and hard stools appear in addition to reduction of bowel movement frequency. When such symptoms become chronic, many patients suffer a decline in QOL (quality of life). In a placebo-controlled, double-blind Phase 3 clinical study conducted in Japan, which was the basis for marketing approval, there were statistically significant improvements observed in changes in spontaneous bowel movement2) (primary endpoint), complete spontaneous bowel movement3) (secondary endpoint), time to first spontaneous bowel movement, stool consistency and other parameters for the GOOFICE Tablet-treated group compared to the placebo group. No serious adverse events were observed.

GOOFICE Tablet was jointly developed by EA Pharma and Mochida. EA Pharma and Mochida will distribute the product under the same brand name, respectively. EA Pharma and Eisai have signed a co-promotion agreement and will jointly provide information for proper use of the product.
By providing GOOFICE Tablet with its novel mechanism of action, EA Pharma, Eisai and Mochida strive to broaden treatment options for patients with chronic constipation to make a further contribution to improve patients' QOL.

NEC Uses 5G to Contribute to Remote Medical Examination Trials

Conceptual image of the field trial
TOKYO, Apr 19, 2018 - (JCN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (TSE: 6701) today announced its contributions to field trials in remote medical examinations using 5G. NEC provided a base station system as part of comprehensive 5G demonstration experiments carried out by NTT DOCOMO, INC., the Wakayama Prefectural Government, and Wakayama Medical University and hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Wakayama Prefecture is a mountainous, sparsely populated region of Japan, with limited access to advanced medical institutions. Moreover, the medical offices located there are often understaffed and doctors are frequently required to see patients who are outside of their expertise. Therefore, the Wakayama Prefectural Government established a remote medical support system (a video conference system that uses an Internet connection) which connects 13 prefectural medical institutions and Wakayama Medical University, allowing doctors to receive advice from specialists, even in towns in mountainous areas. However, the system frequently met with problems, including unclear images and transmission delays.

In order to address these issues, verification tests have been conducted with an optical cable to establish a remote medical examination service utilizing 5G to connect Wakayama Medical University and Hidakagawa Kokuho Kawakami Clinic, which is about 30 km from the university. As part of this, NEC set up a massive-element Active Antenna System (AAS)base station system supporting a 28 GHz band to create a 5G wireless network.

In this experiment, large-capacity 5G transmission enabled real time communication and sharing of images taken by a 4K close-up camera, high-definition echocardiographic (echo) video and MRI images using a 4K video conference system between Wakayama Medical University and Kokuho Kawakami Clinic.

Participants included doctors from the dermatology, cardiovascular internal medicine and orthopedic surgery departments of Wakayama Medical University and its hospital. Benefits of the experiment included the use of high-definition large-screen monitors, making it possible to easily view the condition of a subject in minute detail. Further, because of the realistic feeling of the reactions and expressions during a doctor's interview, it became possible to communicate with patients more personally, supporting the progress of the medical examinations and reducing the burden on medical staff and patients.

http://www.acnnewswire.com/topimg/Low_NEC5GConceptualImage.jpg
Conceptual image of the field trial

"Ultra-high-speed 5G communications are often associated with the entertainment industry. However, these trials showed us that 5G can play a role in solving social issues, such as reducing regional disparities in the delivery of health care. We plan to create new business models and value by continuing to take advantage of 5G technologies in collaboration with ICT vendors, and a wide variety of companies and organizations in the near future," said Jun Mashino, Senior Research Engineer, 5G Radio Access Network Research Group, 5G Laboratory, NTT DOCOMO.

"The remote medical examinations system, where valuable advice can be delivered by medical specialists, will likely become a reliable support system for inexperienced doctors who are newly dispatched to remote areas. I also believe that the system can be utilized for providing emergency medical care, such as by using small-sized echo cameras to transmit high-speed video images of patients at disaster sites or at the site of an accident. We plan to continue improving the quality of rural medical services by proactively adopting cutting-edge technologies," said Takashi Yamano, M.D., Ph.D, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine Community, Medical Support Center, Wakayama Medical University.

"In the field trials, it was as if the medical specialist at the prefectural medical university was right there next to me as we watched the same video of the patient's affected area. Getting the opinion of a medical specialist provides patients with the advantage of a highly reliable examination, while the doctors are provided with the opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge. I truly hope that this kind of cutting-edge medical service spreads outside our prefecture," said Naoki Hirabayashi, M.D., Director, Hidakagawa Kokuho Kawakami Clinic.

"In this demonstration experiment, we are honored to have contributed to the efforts to improve medical services in sparsely populated, mountainous areas by utilizing high-speed and large-capacity 5G wireless technology. We will continue to improve the performance of 5G technology and contribute to the provision of new medical services in cooperation with NTT DOCOMO and Wakayama Medical University," said Seiji Kondo, General Manager, Wireless Access Solutions Division, NEC Corporation.

NEC's massive-element AAS base station system adopts a fully digital control system, which improves the precision of beamforming. The fully digital control system enables simultaneous beamforming in multiple directions from a single massive-element AAS unit, which efficiently implements high-speed and high-capacity communication without interfering with adjacent users through spatial multiplexing.

NEC will continue its efforts to develop a massive-element AAS base station system that delivers high speed, high capacity, and massive connectivity, aiming for the practical use of 5G technology. As in this remote medical examination, NEC cooperates with telecommunications carriers and partners alike, aiming for the creation of new services and businesses through the utilization of 5G.

(1) This trial was conducted by NTT DOCOMO under a project commissioned by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications to examine the technical specificationsfor 5th generation mobile communication systems that can realize a data communication speed exceeding 10 Gbps in densely populated areas.

The First Vessel of the "Sayaringo STaGE" type "Diamond Gas Orchid"
- First "Sayaringo STaGE" Vessel, for Cameron LNG Project in the U.S.-

- LNG carrying capacity and fuel performance significantly improved through enhanced hull structure and hybrid propulsion system
- Christening held at Nagasaki Works; completion set for late June

TOKYO, Apr 19, 2018 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a Group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) based in Yokohama, today held the christening ceremony for a next-generation LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier under construction for a joint venture of Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line). The ship, named "Diamond Gas Orchid," is the first "Sayaringo STaGE" type vessel, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's newest carrier that achieves significant improvements in both LNG carrying capacity and fuel performance thanks to a more efficient hull structure and an innovative hybrid propulsion system. After completion in late June, the Diamond Gas Orchid will go into service transporting LNG for the Cameron LNG Project, a project in the U.S. state of Louisiana in which Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK Line are jointly participating.

The well-attended christening ceremony was held at the Main Plant of MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works. Hidenori Takaoka, Executive Vice President and CEO of Mitsubishi Corporation's Energy Business Group, proclaimed the formal christening, and his wife, Mrs. Takaoka, performed the ceremonial rope cutting.

The Diamond Gas Orchid features LOA (length overall) of 293.5m, width of 48.94m, depth of 27.0m, and draft of 11.05m. Deadweight capacity is approximately 73,800 tons, and the total holding capacity of the tanks is 165,000m3. Launching took place in March 2017. Construction was performed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Structure Co., Ltd., a Nagasaki-based MHI Group company.

The Sayaringo STaGE succeeds the "Sayaendo," a vessel highly acclaimed for its improved Moss-type spherical tanks that deliver a high level of reliability. The adoption of apple-shaped tanks in the new Sayaringo STaGE offering has enabled an increase in LNG carrying capacity without changing the ship's beam, while incorporation of a hybrid propulsion system has significantly boosted fuel efficiency compared to the Sayaendo.

STaGE, an acronym deriving from "Steam Turbine and Gas Engines," is a hybrid propulsion system combining a steam turbine and engines that can be fired by gas. Efficient use of the engines' waste heat in the steam turbine results in substantial improvement in plant efficiency, enabling high-efficiency navigation throughout a full range of speeds.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Structure will continue to deliver solutions that enable a stable energy supply and environmental benefits by constructing next-generation LNG carriers with superlative transport capacity, fuel efficiency and environmental performance.

WARC 100: Lessons from the world's top effectiveness campaigns revealed

- Effective campaigns increasingly have PR 'baked in'
- TV-led and video-led - two different models
- The use of partnerships is on the rise
- Brands are looking for multi-year platforms

LONDON, Apr 19, 2018 - (ACN Newswire) - WARC, the global marketing intelligence service, has today released 'Lessons from the world's top effectiveness campaigns' to uncover shared creative, media and measurement strategies. The report analyses the results of the latest WARC 100, an annual ranking of campaigns based on their performance in effectiveness awards from around the world.

The four lessons from the 2018 WARC 100 analysis are:

1. Effective campaigns increasingly have PR 'baked in'

Analysis of campaigns in this year's WARC 100 reveal the increasing use of PR in their channel strategies. This reflects the rise of creative ideas built to gain press coverage and other earned media. Several ideas at the top of the ranking centre around a highly PR-able stunt or concept, like the Transport Accident Association's 'Graham', that can generate content across channels and media.

2. TV-led and video-led - two different models

This year a dominance of video - both online and TV - is evident in the winning campaigns. Analysis of campaigns led by TV and campaigns led by online video show they are key to emotional creative strategies. Budgets tend to be higher for TV-led campaigns, and the media mix differs between the two groups as a result. Though social media is the most common support channel regardless of lead media, OOH and print are more commonly present in the mix of TV-led campaigns, with word-of-mouth and PR supporting a higher proportion of online video-led strategies.

3. The use of partnerships is on the rise

Over the past two years, the use of partnerships as a creative strategy has increased in WARC 100 campaigns. Utilising the reach or credibility of partner organisations was an effective strategy for four of the top 10 campaigns this year, with both expected and unusual partnerships seeing success. Though seen across the whole WARC 100, partnerships saw particular use in campaigns targeting millennials, like Burger King's 'The McWhopper Proposal'.

4. Brands are looking for multi-year platforms

Long-term ideas are a growing feature of the WARC 100 as brands look to squeeze more out of their platforms. The continuing presence of the John Lewis Christmas campaigns in the WARC 100 provides a great case for the success of long-term campaigns. John Lewis has taken the Christmas period and turned it into an advertising event, annually driving huge amounts of publicity, engagement and ultimately return on their investment. Two further top 10 campaigns for Ariel and Snickers have reworked or evolved ongoing campaign themes with success over the past year, using the power of association to grow and reinforce the memory's perception of brands over time.

David Tiltman, Head of Content, WARC, says: "This year's analysis of the WARC 100 reveals some major long-term trends in effective advertising. Brands are increasingly looking for ideas with high PR impact, and marketing platforms with potential to run across multiple years - and with budgets under pressure in many markets, those trends are set to continue."

The WARC 100 is now part of the Gunn Report, which tracks the winners' lists from all the most important advertising award contests, globally. The results of 70+ effectiveness competitions are used to compile the WARC 100, which now in its fifth year, is built on a rigorous methodology, developed in consultation with King's College London. The methodology is applied consistently across all global, regional and national competitions tracked.
