Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA), the fair features an inaugural Canadian Pavilion and Taiwan Pavilion, along with 10 sector-specific zones.
Speaking at today's press conference to announce details of the fair, Otto To, Vice-Chairman of the HKMHDIA, said: "According to the World Health Organization, annual global health expenditure exceeds US$ 6.5 trillion; the demand for medical devices and services continues to grow bigger each year, including major economies such as the Chinese mainland."
Sourcing Platform
The three-day fair will welcome 36 buying missions from 24 countries and regions, comprising more than 1,300 buyers. Visitors from around the world will be able to source the latest medical and health-related technology, equipment, devices and supplies at a variety of sector-specific fair zones. The Hospital Equipment zone will showcase different types of specialist electro-medical equipment and medical technology ranging from ultrasound and imaging equipment to anaesthetic equipment and surgical instruments. The Rehabilitation and Elderly Care zone highlights products targeting the silver market, such as patient monitoring systems and orthopaedic equipment. Other featured zones include Medical Cosmetology, Physiotherapy, Tech Exchange and Business of IP Zone.
Medical Tech
Various hi-tech products will be on display at the fair, including a 3D printer specifically tailored for medical-related aids and components, an electronic toilet seat lifting device for users who have limited flexion in hips or knees, a multi-function stair-climbing powered wheelchair, and much more.
Clinical Analysis
The fair will also host a number of seminars and forums that analyse industry trends and markets. The seminar on "Latest Technology & Applications in the Medical and Healthcare Device Industry" (18 May) will examine the application of 3D printing in medical devices as well as nanotechnology and medical robotics. There will also be a "Seminar on Latest Medical Device Supervision and Administration Regulation Worldwide" (19 May). Meanwhile, a buyer forum will discuss the business opportunities in the Australian and European markets (19 May).
International Convention
The Hospital Authority Convention will be held during the first two days of the fair (18-19 May), featuring over 90 speakers and more than 45 sessions. Key topics of this year's convention are Rehabilitation Services, Elderly Care, Empowerment, New Clinical Practices and China Healthcare. There will also be Masterclasses and Parallel Sessions on various clinical topics such as Personalised Medicine, Palliative Care, Pain Management and Prevention and Control of AIDS.
