    The new 3rd generation Century carries on the tradition of master craftsmanship and high-quality monozukuri (all-encompassing manufacturing) while realizing high-demand environmental performance and a design layout that pursues passenger comfort. The interior and exterior design injects new charm into the Century in line with its heritage. Moreover, the new Century features advanced equipment and comfort amenities only suitable for a luxury limousine.

    Specifically, the Century is now powered by a 5.0-liter V8 hybrid system for outstanding fuel efficiency.     Praluent continues to be available to patients in the U.S.

    Paris, France and Tarrytown, N.Y., Oct 6, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - Sanofi and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has ordered a new trial and vacated the permanent injunction in the dispute concerning Amgen's asserted patent claims for antibodies targeting PCSK9 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9). This ruling means that Sanofi and Regeneron will continue marketing, selling and manufacturing Praluent(R) (alirocumab) injection in the U.S.

    In the decision, the Federal Circuit ruled that the trial court erred by (1) excluding evidence regarding written description; (2) excluding evidence on enablement; (3) improperly instructing the jury on written description, holding that the law requires "a written description of the invention", meaning the claimed antibody itself and not the antigen; and (4) improperly granting a permanent injunction. The Federal Circuit affirmed the trial court's ruling that Amgen's patents were non-obvious, which was one of Sanofi and Regeneron's several challenges to validity of Amgen's patents. Because of the improper exclusion of evidence, the court considered the record to be incomplete and concluded at this time that Sanofi and Regeneron are not entitled to judgment as a matter of law (JMOL) on the issues of written description and enablement.

    The schedule for the new trial has not yet been determined. The companies do not anticipate any new trial proceedings to start in 2017.

    Praluent was the first PCSK9 antibody to be approved for use in the U.S. It is indicated for use as adjunct to diet and maximally-tolerated statin therapy for the treatment of adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or clinical atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, who require additional lowering of "bad" (LDL) cholesterol. Praluent is the only PCSK9 antibody that offers two biweekly doses (75 mg and 150 mg) with two levels of efficacy, allowing healthcare providers the flexibility to adjust the therapeutic dose based on their patient's LDL cholesterol-lowering needs. Praluent is also available as a 300 mg, once-monthly dosing option (every four weeks) in the U.S. The effect of Praluent on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality has not been determined.

    TOKYO, Oct 6, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - SBI Holdings, Inc. (TSE: 8473), SBI BITS Co., Ltd. and NEC Corporation (TSE: 6701) today announced that they would jointly embark on the industry's first demonstration trial of Know Your Customer (KYC) operations infrastructure equipped with blockchain technology. This trial takes place in cooperation with 14 financial institutions and capitalizes on the initiative "Proof of Concept Testing for utilization of Blockchain/DLT (distributed ledger technology) in Capital Market Infrastructure" project conducted by the Japan Exchange Group.

    This demonstration trial is intended to increase convenience for customers at the time of opening accounts at securities companies and to streamline the operations of securities companies by sharing KYC information quickly and securely among other securities companies through the use of the blockchain technology, which is characterized by its reduced susceptibility to data falsification and loss.

    With the use of open source blockchain platforms, namely Hyperledger Fabric and Corda, SBI Holdings, SBI BITS and NEC will develop an application that allows securities companies to share KYC data and implement it on the cloud as KYC operational infrastructure.

    In response to the 2014 statement of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on measures against international money laundering and terrorist financing, Japan requires domestic financial institutions to carry out identity checks and to keep records on them in the event of an account being opened. Anticipating tougher regulations in the future, financial institutions are required to steadily take action to comply with laws and systems.

    To offer a solution to this challenge, SBI Holdings, SBI BITS and NEC will verify and evaluate the effect of introducing blockchain technology to KYC operations in cooperation with financial institutions that are participating in this trial. The three companies aim to offer secure, reassuring and functional KYC operations infrastructure.

With the change, different sets of VI being used for different categories of power products will be replaced by the Honda logo, which will now be used for all categories of Honda power products. Through the unified use of the Honda logo, which represents the Honda brand and has already been used on various Honda power products, Honda will strive to strengthen the brand of its power products business all around the world.

    Judging support system in Artistic Gymnastics competitions
    TOKYO, Oct 9, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), which regulates Gymnastics disciplines internationally, and Fujitsu Limited today announced that they have agreed to collaborate on implementing a judging support system for Artistic Gymnastics competitions. In collaboration, FIG and Fujitsu will carry out data capture and field trials in order to achieve fair and accurate, real-time judging support for Artistic Gymnastics that can be launched in 2020.

    From 2016, Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., and the Japan Gymnastics Association have been conducting joint research on judging support technology for Artistic Gymnastics competitions. Now, based on this technology, FIG, which oversees regional and national gymnastics organizations, establishes gymnastics rules, and hosts international competitions, and Fujitsu have agreed to work together to launch a judging support system in order to achieve consistently fair and accurate, real-time judging support.

    Under the agreement, Fujitsu, for the first time at a World Championship, captured competition data at the 47th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal, Canada, from October 2nd to 8th. The data will be used to further develop the judging support system.

    With the aim of making the system available for practical use in 2020, the partners will acquire data of athletes competing in international competitions and continue development of the system, which will be put to test use at the 48th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, taking place in Doha, Qatar.

    KINGSPORT, Tenn., Oct 9, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - Eastman Chemical Company [NYSE:EMN] today updated full-year 2017 earnings expectations, including preliminary expectations of the impact of an operational incident at its Kingsport manufacturing facility.

    Regarding full-year 2017 earnings expectations, underlying business conditions in the third quarter were strong across the company and are expected to continue into the fourth quarter. In addition, the financial impact of recent hurricanes in the U.S. is expected to be neutral, with varying impacts by segment. As a result, the company expects to be toward the high end of the previously projected range of 10 to 12 percent adjusted EPS growth in 2017 compared with 2016 excluding the financial impact of the Kingsport operational incident.

    On October 4, 2017, the company had an operational incident in the Kingsport site's coal gasification operations area. There were no serious injuries and no impact to human health or the environment. All areas of the manufacturing facility are returning to normal operations except coal gasification operations. The company is putting alternate processes in place to maintain operations of all downstream derivative facilities of coal gasification as repairs are being made. While the company continues to assess the financial impact of the incident including the applicability of property and business interruption insurance, the incident is preliminarily expected to impact operating earnings by between $50 and $100 million, mostly in fourth quarter 2017.

    TOKYO, Oct 10, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced that it has reached an agreement with Mizuho Financial Group, Inc., Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc., and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. to conduct a joint field trial of a person-to-person money transfer service using blockchain technology. The trial will begin in January 2018 and last for about three months. Fujitsu has already initiated development of the trial system.

    For this field trial, Fujitsu will develop a cloud-based blockchain platform for money transfers between individuals that can be jointly used by these three major banks, as well as a smartphone application that allows users to easily handle the different steps for sending money and for making deposits and withdrawals.     KAWASAKI, Japan, Oct 10, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of millimeter wave circuit technology for base stations that, while consuming the same level of power as a Wi-Fi access point, deliver the high-speed communications in excess of 10-Gbps required by fifth generation mobile communication formats, or 5G.

    Beam-forming technology concentrates signals in just one specified direction by setting a large number of antenna elements, 128 of them, into arrays, and controlling the phase of the signal to each element. Fujitsu Laboratories previously developed technology to encode signals between sub-arrays, providing both high-speed communications and low power consumption by encrypting the signals in such a way that cancels out unwanted signal interference. Now, Fujitsu Laboratories has developed millimeter wave circuit technology for a phase shifter, a type of circuit which controls the phase of signals to antenna elements, which reduces the number of amps and minimizes the electrical loss of a circuit. This thereby enables the power consumption of the phase shifter component to be halved. This technology successfully reduced power consumption to 3W when used with 128 antenna elements. By combining this technology with the previously developed technology, high-speed communications using millimeter waves are now possible with small 5G base stations that can be deployed in places that have a large concentration of people, such as near train stations and in stadiums.

    Development Background

    Recent years have seen ongoing R&D into 5G in countries around the world with the aim of practical deployment in 2020. In order to achieve one of the requirements of 5G, namely high-speed, high-capacity communications in excess of 10-Gbps, the millimeter wave band is expected to be used as it offers a wide useable frequency bandwidth. A service that this technology could enable, for example, would be in a sports stadium in which each individual user could stream high-resolution video from their mobile device to watch replays or other content.

    Issues

    While millimeter waves can provide high-speed and high-capacity communications, they are very one-directional, and do not have the ability to bend around objects to any great degree. In places with a high concentration of people, it is envisaged that the use of a method called small cells, in which base stations are deployed every few tens of meters, will be called for. These base stations will require technology that can handle communications with multiple users simultaneously by dividing and multiplexing beams using a technology called beam-forming, which uses multiple antenna elements to concentrate the signal in a desired direction.

    In beam-forming technology, Fujitsu Laboratories has already developed technology that encodes signals between sub-arrays that reduce antenna array power consumption(1), succeeding in providing high speeds and capacity while reducing power consumption. However, in order to deploy multiple base stations in places with a high concentration of people, such as in stadiums and near train stations, the goal has been to reduce power consumption to about 10W, equivalent to that of a Wi-Fi access point, but such a goal had been difficult to achieve until now.

    About the Newly Developed Technology

    Fujitsu Laboratories has now developed technology to halve the power consumption of circuits called phase shifters. Phase shifters control the phase of the signal to antenna elements by reducing the number of amps, which are essential components of phase shifters, by combining switching circuits with differential amps, while at the same time adopting a new millimeter wave circuit that limits the electrical loss of circuits.

    Phase shifters are circuits that determine the direction of the beam output from an antenna array by adjusting the phase of the input signal to each antenna in a range of 0 to 360 degrees. Up until now, each phase shifter has required four amps.

    Now, by developing a new switch circuit that can switch the phase of the output signal to 0 and 180 degrees, or 90 and 270 degrees through encoding a positive or negative sign into the input signal, Fujitsu Laboratories has successfully reduced the number of required amps to two. Also, in order to reduce interference between beams, by adding the capability to measure the phase and amplitude actually set by the phase shifter and then adjusting in order to compensate for deviation, Fujitsu Laboratories both reduced power consumption and increased the accuracy with which the beam direction is controlled.

By combining this technology with previously developed technology, Fujitsu Laboratories has made possible high-speed communications in excess of 10-Gbps at a low power consumption of around 10W, similar to a Wi-Fi access point, thereby minimizing communication speed drops for users, even in places with a high-concentration of people, such as near train stations and in stadiums, by setting up multiple base stations in a smaller area, providing an ideal communications environment.

The Project processes natural gas produced from the Wheatstone and Iago gas fields located in the offshore area of Western Australia's North West Shelf into LNG for export.

    The production of the first batch of LNG marks the start-up of the Project, just over five years after PEW obtained interests comprising a 10% stake in gas fields and an 8% stake in LNG plant facilities in June 2012.

    The Wheatstone LNG Project is led and operated by Chevron Australia, which is also undergoing construction work on a second liquefaction train. The Project will have a combined capacity to produce 8.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG. PEW's equity share of production, approximately 0.7 MTPA of LNG, will be supplied to JERA under a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA).

    The number of countries importing LNG has been increasing in light of increases in world energy consumption due to overall population growth. There is also a growing global trend towards a preference for clean energy sources such as natural gas and LNG in keeping with measures aimed at tackling climate change. Against this backdrop of growing global demand, it is critical that Japanese players secure stable sources for ensuring long-term sustainable natural gas supplies. The Project also carries profound significance in terms of securing energy resources through cooperation between public and private sectors.

    The final day featured two loops of three stages, without a service break in-between. Hanninen posted two top-three stage times during the opening loop, and he finished the rally with fifth place on the Power Stage to claim an additional point. Esapekka Lappi began the day in sixth position but was forced to retire after he hit a barrier on the second stage of the morning. Jari-Matti Latvala retired from the rally on Friday after a heavy impact damaged the lubrication system and caused him to stop.

    Gives the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology AI processing performance of 550 petaflops

    TOKYO, Oct 10, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced that it has received an order from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) for AI Bridging Cloud Infrastructure (ABCI), which is set to become the fastest supercomputer system in Japan.

    Included in the ABCI configuration will be Fujitsu's latest x86 servers, the Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY. The system will offer a theoretical peak performance in half-precision floating point operations (a critical measure in the AI field) of 550 petaflops(1), and 37 petaflops of double-precision floating point operation performance, a conventional measure in simulation and other fields. If this system had competed in the latest TOP500(2) ranking of supercomputers that took place in June 2017, it would have taken the top position in Japan and third place globally.

    ABCI will be deployed to the new ABCI datacenter on the Kashiwa II campus of the University of Tokyo, and is scheduled to begin operations in fiscal 2018 (fiscal years start April 1).

    In order to accelerate cutting-edge research and development in AI technology, as well as practical applications in society in such fields as industry, AIST has been planning to deploy ABCI as a global open innovation platform that will enable high speed AI processing by combining algorithms, big data and computational power. As a cloud platform for AI applications offering the world's top class machine learning processing capability, high performance computational capability, and energy efficiency, ABCI is expected to create new applications in a variety of fields. Furthermore, the system is foreseen to promote the utilization of cutting-edge AI technology by industry, including transfer of the latest cloud platform technology to the public through an open design.

    Fujitsu has now received the order for this system due to the company's proposal for a large-scale computational system using the technology acquired through HPC development, as well as AI focused software acceleration technology from Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd.

    ABCI will feature hardware including a high-performance computational system, a high-capacity storage system, and a variety of networking technology, as well as a group of software that makes the best use of the system.

    As the core of ABCI, the high-performance computational system will consist of 1,088 PRIMERGY CX2570 M4 servers, mounted in Fujitsu's PRIMERGY CX400 M4 multi-node servers. Each server will feature the latest components, including two Intel Xeon Gold processor CPUs (a total of 2,176 CPUs) and four NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPU computing cards (a total of 4,352 GPUs), as well as Intel SSD DC P4600 series based on an NVMe standard, as local storage.

    Moreover, the 2U size chassis PRIMERGY CX400 M4 can each mount two PRIMERGY CX2570 M4 server nodes with GPU computing cards, offering high installation density. In addition, by utilizing "hot water cooling" for its servers, this system can also realize significant power savings.

    Applying its AI and HPC technology to AIST's high system requirement standards for both hardware and software, Fujitsu will construct the system with the goal of commencing operations in fiscal 2018. After the launch, Fujitsu will support with the operation of ABCI, and with researchers both inside and outside AIST, through R&D and practical applications in society will contribute to the acceleration of AI utilization.
